Pretty sure there was speculation about a show with a comedy duo that wasn't Bill and Ted. This would check out.

If everything that is on the spec map actually happened, I think this would a really exciting year. Usually, there are things that on these maps that I hope to do not end up at the event, but I'd be pretty happy if any of these guesses end up being true.

As far as, Silent Hill vs A Quiet Place preference ( I realize this doesn't mean that either will be at the event), I'd be very excited for a Silent Hill return. However, I do understand that it's popularity level isn't as high as other the IPs, making it unlikely. Not impossible but unlikely.

I can't wait to see what is actually going to be at the event this year, hopefully we are in for some positive surprises.

Perhaps I’m alone on this, but the type of humor Bill and Ted and a theoretical Harold and Kumar show pump out is extremely repetitive and dull. The main conceit of the first Harold and Kumar is basically “lmao weed!” which wasn’t all that funny 20 years ago and uh, not sure if y’all noticed, but the central taboo doesn’t really exist anymore.

I’ve never seen a Harold and Kumar. By the sounds of it, I may not want to. I was thinking that universal could just make it their own and interesting. I don’t think they would try to tackle an older property like that unless they had some good ideas. Maybe something similar to the Beetlejuice graveyard review where it just uses parts of the property and innovates the rest. If they are just narrating, the rest of the show can be whenever they want it to be.

I don’t see any pushback on a POTENTIAL icon; I see pushback on people jumping the shark on who an Icon will be for this year based off a generic symbol. Believe me, this stuff has led to pages and pages and pages of useless back and forth (in prior years) of spec that never amounts to anything. 3.5 being right for houses is one thing, claiming an icon is coming from a symbol is a whole other ballgame. Just trying to dissuade that kind of talk unless things become more apparent or obvious about any icon or over arching theme for the event. Feel free to speculate and discuss but we’ve been down this road before and it’s a long and pointless one, more often than not.

I wanted to clarify that my comment about 3.5 houses being right was meant to be a completely separate thought from the Icon stuff lol

If the speculation currently is even remotely true - this would be a solid lineup. Wouldn't be anything stacked like 29/32 but could just be a really good collection of ideas.

That was never Bill and Ted’s gimmick, though - they were much more versatile comic figures powered by a perpetual airheaded optimism (the HHN shows never really captured this, of course). I’ll happily take any comedy show at this point, but Harold and Kumar seem a lot less attractive for such a show - and no more relevant- than Bill and Ted (or Abbott and Costello).

right, and my thought is that their treatment with Harold and Kumar will be more of the same. I don’t think horror nights is well suited to a comedy show, and I certainly don’t have much hope that they’d elevate (or subvert) a comedy duo I don’t find that funny to begin with.

I don’t mind HHN having a comedy show. I think one would do quite well honestly. My question is, what would make them want to do Harold and Kumar as opposed to just bringing Bill and Ted back?

HHN can still host a comedy show, but please have less dancing. B&T became more of a dance show at the end.

We don't need something that's basically just Bill and Ted 2.0, the event is just fine without it, there are plenty of other ways to do a comedy show that fit with HHN just a little bit better IMO.

Obviously different events with different ideas, but I like what Knott's has done with (some of) The Hanging, which they brought back last year. The pop culture jokes can still be cringey and unnecessary, but I enjoyed that a lot of the stage, props, story, and jokes referenced Knott's as a whole, roasting parts of the Scary Farm event and more of the theme park / haunt industry rather than just being JUST a predictable pop-culture romp.

I'd like to see that part come over to HHN, roasting some of their past failures and having a show that's a lot more funny if you follow the event- you can keep the same style of dimwitted-but-lovable hosts, the content is similar to before but less likely to approach taboo subjects. At least, I don't think Universal would be willing to go as risqué with some of their "jokes" from before. You could counter that maybe it becomes less intriguing for the GP, but Nightmare Fuel still theoretically exists, and there's still the potential for a draw of decent crowds.

I guess there were moments like that in The Carnage Returns at the very least, but I know HHN can be more dynamic with their entertainment, they don't need to just retread what worked before beat-for-beat.

It’s an issue with HHN’s writing and, more specifically, the writers’ assumptions about the audience. That could be fixed. Comedy and horror go together beautifully- we can all list many great horror comedy films and a disproportionate share of HHNs best houses have been comedic. Abbott and Costello are best remembered today for their encounters with the Uni monsters and Bill and Ted, with their loose, silly plots and musical elements, are perfectly suited to the kind of show HHN wants. The only issue is that the writing underestimates HHN guests a little (just a little - the event demands it be broad and silly).

I’ll repeat, however, that I’ll happily take any kind of comedy show they want to give us. I’ll even take a dance show that isn’t absurdly self-serious.

A comedy show absolutely has a place at HHN, just based on the fact that we got one for two decades and it grew a loyal fanbase. Whether you liked the shows or not is another question, but the event can clearly handle one.

It also is probably for the best to have more attractions to soak up the ever expanding capacity of HHN. This was a major discussion no more than a few months ago, and now it seems to actually be happening. That's cool to see some progress being made there.

I've got no connection to Harold and Kumar as an IP. In this specific case, the draw for me would end up being a new HHN show, and not the IP. Hopefully they deliver an okay script if this is the path they take.

I wouldn't personally count an H&K show out.
Priority is that it's SOMETHING to draw people away from other houses and their lines. I might not see it, but others will and that means something for try-hards and die-hards like us who are sitting in house lines all night. Would we rather have soemthing over nothing? The answer should be yes. so anyone poo-pooing it out the gate should think a bit further.

It doesn't matter if the show doesn't appeal to you - are you the demographic? really? do you think the regular HHN audience is sitting here right now following development like an addict?
Of course not. Any regular floridian or regular/irregular attending guest of the supposed 30,000 - 35,000 masses don't follow horror nights religiously like we do. We don't need reasons to introduce something that allows people to sit down for a bit and watch two idiots make meta/stoner jokes about universal monsters/hhn. Chances are, they're probably looking for an excuse to sit down, eat something, take a break, grab a drink anyway. i KNOW i'm not the only one who doses/pockets several edibles before going to events like this. so like... there may or may not be stoners in this member forum, but they're among us. IN THE FOG(lol)

We also don't KNOW what the show is going to be about. So, like, let's allow them some time to give us the deets. What if it's H&K meet the various Universal monsters. What if they meet Beetlejuice? What if its more of a regular show where they talk to people/bring people up and simply joke around/do little horror nights games like an UN-educational version of the horror make up show? Isn't that kinda... what people have been asking for?
I don't know. But we should be OPEN to hearing about what it is before we all shoot it down cause i'd actually maybe watch some of those iterations.

The problem with the rumored H&K show is that it’s not Bill & Ted, and it’ll always be open to that comparison.

Agreed! But I have no reason to believe it will be fixed when Bill and Ted ran as it did for many, many years. As I’ve said before, I don’t trust the writing team for either event to tackle comedy based on previous performance.

Happy to be wrong, though!

If they want to license a logical property from another studio for a comedy show that will move merch and be distinct from B&T, why not Ash vs HHN? The jokes about Ash being the worst sort of HHN guest write themselves.

Not sure about skull image being Legendary Truth. Thinking more house based around The Curator character from the store, maybe something similar to Slaughter Cinema, but instead of different movies different comic books.

Yea its a confusing and not particularly relevant choice. Would've made sense if they did it a decade ago.
