I do feel sorry for BriMan that a team member yelled at him, but it is only for the safety of others and to ensure a good experience at the park, because nobody wants to be crying after losing a hat at the parks.

Again..... he did not yell at anyone else about the hat policy.

Hey Bri, I'm still not completely clear on this. Did he yell at anybody else about the hat policy?

Hey Guys. Long time lurker here. I have also been working at JPRA for a few months now so I thought I could explain. They really started cracking down on the hats around the time I was hired. From what they said, it was mainly a safety concern. Basically hats flying back and hitting other guests and what not. It was really stressed that no one was going down that drop with a hat on. However, we've lightened up again on it recently, just a bit. And sorry about those cranky game warden. They're not all that bad. :P

Careful. Don't lose your job over a forum post. I'm sure UO loves to scout these forums to see what we know.

But yeah, I know I've been hit by a hat on JPRA before. I've also had a pair of sunglasses fall from Hulk ride in front of me in Marvel. It really is for safety. I don't think people should be yelled at unless they're not complacent, but I understand the importance. I mean afterall, its because of loose articles that we lost the dueling aspect for the Dragons.

Haha. I am. I was told early on they definitely peer in on social sites so I keep my posts scarce.

I've never removed my hat on the ride, and have ridden it about a dozen times in the past ten years. I always wear a tight fitting Universal cap, so maybe that's why I've never had any problems..

That's quite weird because I was wearing a beanie on my head and was never told to take it off, but the guy in front of me had to take his hat off.

I'm sure in the end it boils down too how secure it is?

I am sure the brim of a cap catches more air than a beanie. I have worn my mine on coasters but wouldn't even think of wearing my baseball hat on them.

I bet it was probably that the team member (is that what they're called at Universal?) had just let a couple boats go with hats, and then was probably reminded not to let the hats go, so then had to be strict with the boat the op was on.

So on our recent trip, we were on JPRA (I had been told to remove my hat and glasses which I did)...we get past the doors and the narration turns way down and an announcement comes on...'all hats must be removed while on the Jurassic Park River Adventure, I am speaking to you in row 1 (I was still hatless in row three).

The person in row 1 is like 'wow' and takes his hat off....few minutes later...same type spiel except this time he was talking to row five.

I guess it was sort of funny and sad at the same time. At least we have been on the ride before and we are pass holders for I might have been unhappy about the interruptions had his been my first time on the adventure and or the trip was a once in a blue moon trip....

That last line is exactly why the TMs are not supposed to do those spiels. If they are that worried they should stop the ride and have a TM go out (which is a giant pain). But it's not only rude to the guest they are talking to (who may not have known) but more importantly it's annoying to the rest of the boat.

Just wanted to point out, while on the ride last week, there is a sign stating no hats are allowed on the ride. Showing a hat flying off a guest in a front row and hitting a guest behind them.

UO is getting a lot better about this kind of communication. Just like the sign out front of Hulk that shows the broken cameras. Unfortunately people don't read. And others assume they are responsible enough to hold onto their stuff (We have a few of them on the boards) ignoring that they are putting other people at risk, not just themselves and their loose items.

The no hat policy is not new. There are signs and it is in the queue video from the nineties. It's not the team members that are ruining the ride. It's the stubborn people who for some reason can't not wear a hat for a few minutes... The hats can fly up and hit guest in the face. I saw one kid say wearing his hat was a part of his religion and they moved him to the back row.

I think this issue could be improved upon, if not completely solved, by offering free lockers for JPRA and also for the other water rides. I think a lot of people don't want to pay for lockers, and so they will be more prone to bring carry-on items on these rides.

The issue could also be resolved if people were respectful of the rules and just stored their loose items. The issue isn't with people picking up bags. It's with people thinking they are better then the rules and taking their camera or hat back out after being told to put it away (and passing signs that say to keep them away)

I'm completely with you on that, but I think free lockers would cut down on people having those items on them to begin with

Yes and no. Are you talking mandatory lockers like the ones with free lockers?

If so yes, but they are a major source of congestion and frustration. Also we'd see a ton more lockers which would affect the atmosphere a bit.

If not, then it def won't keep out the cameras and chances are it won't keep the hats out either since these people are already have no regard for the rule.

Yeah, I mean mandatory lockers, like on the other free ones at non-water rides. If loose articles are already frowned upon and a source of discord, why not? They already have lockers, they're just paid ones. But yeah, they might need to add more, though, if they implement mandatory lockers.
