YES, this!!! I've always wanted Gandalf's staff when I have to "hold a perimeter" so I can say this.

Still want LOTR at a theme park, somewhere, anywhere.

Man, I am a huge Middle Earth fan, and would absolutely LOVE a third gate based on Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit. The number of locations is mind-boggling:

1. The Shire/Hobbiton/Bree
2. Rivendell
3. Mirkwood Forest/Dol Guldor
4. Isengard/Fangorn Forest
5. Misty Mountains/Mines of Moria
6. Rohan/Helms Deep
7. Gondor/Minas Tirith
8. The Lonely Mountain/Erebor/Lake Town
9. Lothlorien
10. City of the Dead
11. Minas Morgol/Shelob's Lair
12. MORDOR! Black Gate/Barad-Dur/Mount Doom/Cirith Ungol

I'd love to see the different lands themed with the different races(men, elves, dwarves, orcs, etc). The rides, shows, meet-n-greet ideas are endless! I'd kill to see this come to fruition.

I guess my biggest problem with a LOTR park is the story is such an unhappy one for so much of the story. Like 90%+ is trials, death, war, etc. Thats not your typical theme, amusement park fare. I mean a Mordor land would have to be a desolate place. Would that really be the kind of thing that would be popular for families? Hey lets pop over to mordor to grab some burgers for lunch? I can see a shire land and Rivendell probably, but after that, how many lands could you really flesh out from the books that wouldn't be either mood killers or only loosely based on the story? I could see a single large land or a couple similar to how the harry potter deal is, but any more than that and I think you run into trouble making it fun for the general public.

I say this knowing they would never build a whole park dedicated to the tolkein stuff, but if it happened somehow, I'd still go. lol

Haha I see your point...however there are also very beautiful locations in LOTR...also when I picture a LOTR area I'm picturing something rivaling Disneysea's mountain which is the main icon of the park..who dosen't love volcanoes?...and also Mordor is known for its burgers

Middle Earth should get a 25-30 acre land... and that's it: aside from Star Wars and Harry Potter, I can't see a LOTR land being popular enough to warrant more space since it's more like Star Trek

I wouldn't want a park based solely off of one property

While I agree a whole Middle Earth park would be incredibly stupid, I think the property is much more diverse than Star Trek, Star Wars, and Harry Potter. There are many more "necessary" locations in LOTR/The Hobbit than in any of the others.

totally agree
the biggest issue for LOTR would be to figure out what setting do you want the theme park land to take place

but one IP for a park is a terrible idea
lost continent is too small for LOTR, toon lagoon area may work

I think LOTR should be the anchor of a 3rd gate but give it some other properties around it - Nintendo, Transylvania, Syfy City, Hanna Barbera (it would free KidZone up for a full Nick retheme), fully realized Lost Continent (like it used to be and it'd let Wonka move into LC's old location)

They could even do some original ideas and experiment since they've shown us they're capable of great things - imagine an innovative dark ride based on a non-exisiting IP from UC... Comcast will probably give the creatives free reign for the most part since they're doing a superb job as of now

If I were to build a LotR theme park land, where I'd have to fit it all in an average Universal-size land/area, I'd build Hobbiton and then have a HUGE dark ride about Frodo's journey where we could visit the key locations with huge sets and the help of screens to extend the sets. That's the only way I could see it be done realistically with the typical theme park restrictions and considerations.

The Frodo's Journey thing would be a great idea. Because there is so many different LOTR locations Frodo explores. And it would be great opportunity to represent as many locations from the Middle Earth as possible. That way they could concentrate on the more important lands of the ME and make sure the details are up to Harry Potter like standards.

Horror, Video Games land, DC Land(hehe), Sci Fi and LOTR would make for one hell of a third gate! Although I think I can come up with something better than Sci Fi. Hmmm..

I wouldn't do Frodo's journey, it's cliché and no one likes rides which simply retell an already well-known story. The way to go in an ideal world is still a 'tour of Middle Earth' style of thing so that you see all the key locations, but with an original storyline. Setting a distinct time period either before or after Frodo's journey and the time of the books / films would help with this; particularly with LOTR there is so much in the lore it would be criminal not to delve in to it and use it.

If the Tolkien estate are as much purists and sticklers for canon as we've heard, I doubt we're gonna get an original story. Sure, it adds extra interest and wonder to have a new original story, but I don't know if they'd allow it. The tour idea would be sort of like Frodo's journey (minus Frodo). BTW, when I said Frodo's journey, I meant going to the places Frodo and the gang visited, not necessarily re-living every single event he went through, but more for the stunning places we can visit
