You had the "Luck of the Irish" after spending two nights at Pat O'Brien's Piano Bar. :)

Very nit-picky here, but I really wish they would cover up the open building. Looks like :ack:

I remember someone saying a while back that Universal wants to be open later but feels they are maybe 10% away from attendance figures that would make it worthwhile.

This is BS. They have the attendance and have been staying open later (minus any buy outs or Grad events.)

I know they make a ton of money off of buyouts (and I have no problem with the ones they do in CityWalk), but I feel they rent out parts of the park or the entire parks too often still. Renting out the park I see as a cash grab move so I could understand it back when they were hurting, but now? I think they need to focus more on the customers at hand/on-property first and foremost.

This is a common theme park practice. At Disney you can rent the inside of rides like Pirates and Great Movie Ride. Six Flags actually shuts down entire parks for private event.

Same here. Who knows, we could've bumped into each other and not even know it.

I was actually at a Tonight Show taping last month and asked Jimmy Fallon if he could tell us anything about the ride (he had come out into the audience during setup for the band). He didn't say much of anything new, although he did mention the Roots would be in it, and that there would be pizza smell used.

What an interesting discussion. So they make more money off from tables in NY in front of mummy than they would from guests? Whole park buyouts too? Perhaps they steer the buyouts to their weakest days of the week/month?

That would seem to be a given seeing they're his house band

They get the same money from day guests - park admission pays to operate a park. Eddie Sotto once told me that Epcot needs 10k paid guests through the gate to justify opening (the park averages 3x that, and more when it first opened.)

So if a buy out doesn't dramatically lower the number of tickets sold for a day, all the extra cash that comes in from the event is gravy.

And the way events work, for shops to be open the event host has to agree to $XX in sales, or they pay for the difference. Food is paid for as a separate cost, and they hire out attractions and entertainment. So only place that could really lose money is in the shops - and the contract guarantee of $XX-spend makes that happen.

And to cover the spend for smaller events, companies (particularly tech and medical from what i've seen) just go and guy a gift of some sort for all their attendees. Like they'll rent out Hogsmeade, buy all entertainment and rides, buy food, and then keep Filch's open and buy all their attendees a wand and a chocolate frog and etc.. in a gift bag to cover the spend.

This can be so profitable Disney is happy to have multiple empty venues like Odyssey and the Life Pavilion they can constantly rent out. I seem to remember reading that the Oz portion of Great Movie Ride is booked solid 18 months in advance.

Sounds like they'll be parodying Soarin a bit here. Makes sense. I like the idea of a pizza smellitizer... sure as hell beats chili dog!

Though I hate Soarin, I'm excited for this. It finally gives the New York section of the park something New York related...
