The art of filmmaking, stripped of gimmickery, and laid bare in it's naked intensity.

This is NOT a summer popcorn flick, another superhero blockbuster. It weighty, and terse. Tight and brutal. It is the product of a skilled artist in full command of his craft. He is the rare director who can get exactly what he needs from his extraordinarily talented team. It is a rare treat to see the interplay between direction, cinematography, and musical composition play out in all it's IMAX glory right in front of you.

Saw it Friday, was the only movie that I've been on the actual edge of my seat. The score by Zimmer is a big plus, as it adds most of the suspense due to the actual ticking of a clock.
Also, love all the scenes with Tom Hardy. The ending is very beautiful.

Loved it. 4/5. The ticking of the clock is heavily intense and creates such a claustrophobic atmosphere.

I liked it quite a bit. It's in the bottom half of his films for me because I didn't quite connect with any of the characters let alone remember their names, but the filmmaking is on point here.

They never mentioned most of the characters names.

I'm planning to see it here too. I only go to the theater for film so this will be the first movie I've seen since Hateful Eight.

Did they show it on one of the larger screens?

It was shot all in IMAX. So if you have a real IMAX like Pointe Orlando, then that is where you should see it.

It was shot with the intention of being shown in 70mm. Unfortunately Pointe Orlando is not showing that format and is not one of the recommended theaters.

Not quite all. 75% was IMAX. The remainder was set in Panavision 70.(in real IMAX/70 theaters the screen dimensions will shift during non-IMAX scenes). But it was all done in 70mm... a rarity. But there are at least 4 more 70mm films in production/

Whole we don't have IMAX 70, we do have two 70mm theaters showing the film.

Yeah it's a real shame that we have a real IMAX theater locally, and they chose not to show it in the real IMAX format.

You probably completely missed the point of the movie in that case. It's not about the characters, it's a survival story. The point is to get attached to the story and soldiers in general, not the characters. It works well because it has an impact about the horrors of war without the need for you to actually develop any empathy for the characters based on their personalities but rather based on the situations they're put in and the fact that every safe space they get is a dead end. Personally, found it brilliant, would rank it in the upper half of his films.

Yeah they ripped out their 70mm for digital. Hopefully we'll at least get the laser upgrade IMAX has been pushing for the large (i.e., non-LieMAX) theaters. But even in Panavision 70 it was really impressive. (and apparently those 70mm installations ae permanent for now with the future films coming. WB apparently bought all the Weinstein installed equipment).

I saw it at Pointe Orlando's IMAX yesterday. I'm still pissed they got rid of the film projector and haven't upgraded to Laser yet; I wanted it in time for Dunkirk. It's still probably the best option in Orlando to see it because even without the full 1.43 ratio 1.9 is a HUGE difference. The aerial shots looks gorgeous on that screen
