Universal's NEW Classic Monsters Series

Tonally, I think he could be great for CREATURE, which is the one I'd envision as slightly more of a horror/adventure fusion with some humor (though erring slightly more towards horror than Brendan Fraser's MUMMY, for example). Based on GET OUT and early word on US, Peele knows how to bring in laughs without undermining the horror stakes.

As for a FRANKENSTEIN adaptation, there's one name I saw thrown out by an online writer that I actually think would be a brilliant choice: Damien Chazelle. All three of his directorial efforts (WHIPLASH, LA LA LAND, and FIRST MAN) focus on very driven and emotionally-complicated men whose work either undermines or serves as an escape from their personal lives. I think that perfectly describes Victor Frankenstein.

Chazelle also wrote the underrated Hitchcockian thriller GRAND PIANO and co-wrote 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE, so he's got genre cred. And WHIPLASH was produced by... Jason Blum.

While I agree Damien Chazelle would probably be a very solid fit for Frankenstein (and you've drawn a compelling through line of his work), I sincerely doubt he will ever work on a Jason Blum project again. There's bad blood there.

The Leigh Whannell-directed movie follows Cecilia (Moss), who receives the news of her abusive ex-boyfriend’s suicide. She begins to re-build her life for the better, but her sense of reality is put into question when she begins to suspect her deceased lover is not actually dead.

Reid will play the character of Sydney. With her mother gone, she’s picked up the maternal slack and is capable and mature for her age. She’s an outgoing lover of fashion who aspires to see the world, and she initially likes having Cecilia around as a role model, but grows mistrustful of her when strange things begin to happen around the house.

Good plot direction - takes elements of the original Invisible Man (a malevolent character) and The Invisible Man Returns (a lover thought to dead uses the invisibility serum to disappear).

Into it.

I was figuring this would be a female lead. But I like the direction this is going...

The weakest component of the original Invisible Man films (and really many of the Monster efforts) was the doting housewife terrified for her monstrous/under threat husband. This keeps The Invisible Man a clear antagonist while imbuing the protagonist with some agency.

I didn't know where else to post this and this thread just reappeared.

I love these. I'm not a huge fan of the monsters truth be told but if they put these on a t shirt, I'm sold.

I'm intrigued by those story hints, but I also hope that the titular character is actually a scientist/inventor. "Abusive ex-boyfriend" just makes him sound like a low-rent nobody. In order for this to really be an INVISIBLE MAN story and not just a movie about a bad character who happens to be invisible, I think some element of the original text needs to be incorporated.

I will certainly say that the idea of somebody stalking you/being in your house that you can't see certainly has some terrific suspense potential.

Will probably be a government experiment or some mess

One of the most suspenseful movies I ever saw was "Wait Until Dark" with a blind Audrey Hepburn being stalked by Alan Arkin in her apartment. People were jumping out of their seats in the movie theater during high suspense moments. If they could recreate that sensation in this movie, it could be quite thrilling.

I love Wait Until Dark story. But I really like the stage play version.

I do hope this movie captures some of that suspense.

I recently finished watching Mr Robot (great show, watch it) and couldn't stop thinking how great Rami Malek could be as Frankenstein's Monster. In the show he has a very gaunt, sallow complexion which I think would suit the monster. He also does some great acting with very few words, using his facial expressions and emotions, an aspect I think the monster should have. His height might be an issue, but camera trickery can always solve that issue.

He is definitely now my number 1 pick for the part, should Universal move forward with more of the monsters after Invisible Man.

My dark horse pick would be Dave Batista. He has the size, and his range as an actor has surprised the hell out of me.
