Then expect the same disdain Galaxy’s Edge received. People are going to want to go into a Pokémon Center, PokéMart, etc. and hear the music associated with them. They’re going to want to see some kind of implementation of battles.

We'll see, Pokémon is a lot of things to a lot of different people. It's definitely pushed more as a "cozy" franchise these days, rather than something that is "90's Cool" like it used to be. I know multiple people who collect Pokémon apparel despite having never played any of the games.

Cozy can be there but a lot of people will be upset if everything the franchise was built on isn’t present, just like Galaxy’s Edge.

I do think it’s possible or even probable that there were two Pokémon proposals over at Universal Creative.

One that was more rural with a small town feel and wild Pokémon which would be for Lost Continent and one that is more urban with Poké centers and gyms which would be for Simpsons.

I have no idea what they ended up choosing.

Or… you know… it has both a small city section AND a small safari section.

Divided by a fire road.

Pokemon can fit several different ways into each of the parks. I think which park they choose will dictate how they desgin the land and choose the location motif. Personally growing up with the OG game plasying this adventure and feeling like the whole game map was its own small island it always felt like the property felt at Islands of Adventure. USF feels a little forced but could work, and Epic would work well too.

Pokémon Centers and PokéMarts aren’t exclusive to cities. From my memory all towns had them no matter how small or rural they were. The only exception was the first town where your character lived because it wasn’t needed gameplay wise.

Didn't the permits mention something about changes to the access road? Someone who knows better could probably tell us if that's standard or if it seems like this land will actually re-route that road to provide for a different land layout for the build. I know that's probably a very involved process with tons of paperwork and headaches, but moving it almost seems necessary.

Why not both?

I’m taking crazy pills seeing people say Pokemon doesn’t fit Islands. A safari/forest/grass area leading into a small town before hogsmeade fits perfectly. Placing a safari area in USF just doesn’t work.

Not saying it doesn’t fit. Just that I like it better in USF. Safari/forest/grass would be perfect to break up that parks monotony. USF needs an actually good family area.

As I keep saying on other threads recently, I’m sure the “main” Universal parks- USF, IOA, Epic- are meant for teens and adults mainly, and don’t make the younger crowd a priority. Otherwise they wouldn’t have built the Texas park which AFAIK is sort of an “appetizer”. So I wouldn’t expect them to try making a family area above the effort of the Dreamworks (old Kidzone) area.

That said… does the Pokémon area HAVE to be on a safari setting?

There’s very much not one specific thing a pokemon land has to be , especially since pokemon has a variety of appeals to a large number of people across the anime , the trading card game , pokemon go , the mainline games , the side games , etc etc .

Even just the last two games in the series have been vastly different from each other with one taking place entirely in a city (that is incorporating natural and wild elements into it to live in harmony with pokemon ) and a game that was so focused on the outdoors that there were barely any indoor environments/very little focus on the cities outside of one and even the pokemon centers/mart were just outdoor kiosks .

I have no doubts if Pokemon is going to IoA that they will design it in ways that “fit” the generally broad theme of “adventure” and that doesn’t preclude a city/small town environment (like there’s already a city environment at IoA lol ) . It definitely doesn’t preclude there being a pokemon center /mart which have basically been different as needed to fit whatever games they are in since 5-10 years ago.

Either way the main focus of any pokemon land is gonna be you know the pokemon and they aren’t gonna mess up having attractions and meet n greets that show people the most popular pokemon. everything else is just (very immersive) set dressing on how you get to that .

Though to be honest this conversation feels less about whether or not pokemon “fits” into IoA and more so that people thought Zelda in IoA and Pokemon in USF was a slam dunk for about 4-5 years now and the best way to get Nintendo into all three parks . Now it’s back to “what’s going in USF” and I admit that’s understandably frustrating and i hope we get an inkling of what that is soon rumor-wise (and that it’s exciting and isn’t just “Springfield is staying for another decade”) . But that it is what it is and is a conversation for another thread .

IoA has Seuss, Epic has Nintendo and Dragons, USF has… DreamWorks…

And by family I’m not talking about babies. A quick google search tells me a typical 3 to 4 year old is tall enough for Mario Kart.

Not really. I was answering someone using that as a reason for it to be in IoA if that’s the direction they went in.

Very true, and you’re forgetting Camp Jurassic, but doesn’t Nintendo have a big enough teen or even adult fanbase? Though @GA-MBIT pointed out his problem with Nintendo about the younger demographic.

And as for the bolded part, that wasn’t meant directly to you, more for the general forum.

Nintendo is very much a family area whether the kids already like it or the parents are introducing it to them.
