If I remember correctly, the premise is that we're watching the cartoon in a theater, but it opens up and allows us to enter the cartoon. I think it sort of works, at least with the "bring movies to life" theme they're heading toward with DHS.

Ok, that works... I was afraid it would have no linkage to the Chinese theater. If the ride starts out in a theater that works. I would hate to go inside the theater and ride something like Winnie the Pooh it would make no sense.

Blog Mickey has photos up. No walls but new posters and closed doors around the attraction.
From the concept art at the photo op, it looks like that, while they are using the new art style, it is a more toned down version than what some of the new shorts use.

Agreed. What is wrong with using the true classic characters from the early cartoons? Original Mickey, Goofy, Donalds, and crew. Drop this new stuff.

Both Mickey and Minnie are based on the early cartoons. I think this Donald looks fine. I'll give you that Goofy is wacky looking, but when you say "from the early cartoons", do you know what those were? He was a sports loving, cigarette smoking, beer drinking, abusive family man. Nothing like his bland public image today.
Despite the art style not being the classic one, these characters are actually interesting and have personality, exactly like they did in those early cartoons. This isn't the Wall Street Mickey.

I seriously suggest anybody who hasn't watched the shorts to give them a viewing. They're filled to the brim with charm and are enjoyable for adults as much as children.

Oh, I watched the early versions. I should have clarified better. I liked Goofy's look from the 30's and 40's, same with Mickey. I don't know. I guess that I liked the older non-sanitized cartoons. I am interested to see how this ride eventually turns out. In some ways, it is kind of a throwback to the older dark rides which used painted cutouts to get the point across.
The very very end of this week's new cartoon pays tribute all the Mickey Mouse styles through the decades (in the way that I'd hoped the ride would.) Thought it was pretty interesting:

It seems to me A LOT of people were expecting the exact same thing: Mickey through the years just because it was going into the GMR building. People pictured this as a Great Mickey Ride which was never happening.
Should GMR have been updated and MMRR been a new build though? Absolutely.
I never cared much for "Walt's" Mickey. I liked him best when the other artists took over as the Studio grew in size. The new look is not as good as the previous, but I prefer it over the original primitive Mickey.
I think some people are maybe losing sight of what these parks are. They're meant to be family friendly playgrounds for everyone to enjoy. My nephew absolutely loves these shorts, so does my niece (and they are 10 years apart). When we grew up, we had GMR and Universe of Energy, as well as other rides we have seen close. Odes to our education and imagination. It was fantastic to be able to roll through dinosaurs and scenes from our favourite films. Unfortunately, young audiences can't resonate with it as the majority of parents aren't putting their kids in front of Casablanca, Alien, Tarzan, John Wayne like I was or like a lot on this forum probably were. I'm optimistic about MMRR because I think it is genuinely going to be fun. Yeah, it would be great if they used the art style I grew up with. However, I think we have to face they're not going to and just look forward to it.

How so? If you're talking about 3D without glasses that'll be the spinning white sets with projection mapping and blank featured sets with projection mapping.
Oh boy. Family friendly doesn't mean it's focused on those under 18.
