How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk (Epic Universe)

Nobody has freaked out over anything. I'm hoping the angle from which we will approach the building will help hide it.

How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk (Epic Universe)

When the rest of the land looks as immaculately-themed as this land does, I think it's more than fair to be baffled by one of the buildings -- holding a major attraction -- getting the regional amusement park treatment. The overall land looks beautiful.

Tiana's Bayou Adventure (Opening Late 2024)

I think there was founded skepticism at the time it was announced (knowing it had been developed under the Chapek regime) that it was going to be a cheap(er) overhaul involving gutting the interior show scenes in favor of a bunch of screens and projections, with a token AA or two. We've since...

I'm kind of shocked OLC went for that.

DreamWorks Land coming to USF (2024)

I didn't say it wouldn't be the land's main draw. The comparison was made to Everest, certainly the most E-ticket level (in terms of theme and scale) coaster in Orlando. HTTYD seems like it will be closer to Slinky than Everest. That was my point.

    That's... real?

DreamWorks Land coming to USF (2024)

I think Slinky Dog Dash is the closer comparison point. Opinions vary about the actual ride experience itself, but Everest's level of theme, its massive scale, and the "setting the stage" storytelling (both in terms of the mountain itself and the queue) put it in a very elite thematic class.

    Spider-Man 4 (Marvel Studios)

The MCU's version of Ned does not have the presence or the depth to ever become a villain. As played by the actor, he's a goofball comic relief supporting character at best. I think he's actually been too goofy through all three movies so far, frankly, and have no real desire to see him again...

Huge fan of GHOSTWATCH. To get the full effect, you really do have to put yourself in the mindset of what a U.K. viewer tuning in when it aired would have thought. But even just seeing it as an exercise today, it's really quite impressive and ambitious.

    Pirates of the Caribbean Spin-off

Counterpoint: DMC is actually the best one.

    Spider-Man 4 (Marvel Studios)

Unless Peter is not appearing in the next AVENGERS movie (which would be a gigantic mistake from a box office standpoint; the lineup kind of needs him), I think his standalone movie needs to come first to be the bridge after where we left him at the end of NO WAY HOME (where he's on his own, and...

    Ghostbusters coming back to UO?

Is the box office performance of FROZEN EMPIRE -- one way or the other -- likely to have much impact on what might (hypothetically) be happening with the Ghostbusters in USF?

DreamWorks Land coming to USF (2024)

I agree that, in theory, KFP could sustain a ride (or even a land) in Florida. My concern would be that Universal would just clone the ride from Beijing... and I don't want that ride! If it were an entirely new concept, I'd be on board. Of the DreamWorks franchises, my preference would be...

Universal Studios Florida New Nighttime Show (2024)

With the "Symphonic Spectacular" subtitle, I would expect lots of John Williams. As it should be.

    Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

Enjoyed the movie, with the major caveat that there are too many characters and the script doesn't know what to do with all them. Good new villain/mythology, humor mostly works, and I appreciated seeing Aykroyd featured in a significant way; this whole franchise was his brainchild, and it's...

    Jaws Photography

A date which will live in theme park infamy. Although arguably the day they announced the closure -- December 2nd, 2011 -- was even more of a knife to the heart. I think that's the most dispirited and dejected I've ever been at hearing a piece of theme park news. Only the closure announcement...

THE OMEN (1976) is a minor classic and absolutely worth seeing. Well-made from top to bottom. DAMIEN: OMEN II (1978) is schlock, but fun! THE FINAL CONFLICT (1981) is very bad and anticlimactic as a trilogy-ender. All three have incredible Jerry Goldsmith scores that are still influencing...

    Horror Movies Thread

I'm confident I made the right choice sticking with the older Blu-ray release. Given that THE ABYSS and TRUE LIES were stuck on non-Anamorphic DVD (with Laserdisc-era masters), I did buy those. I think THE ABYSS looks very good. TRUE LIES... well, it looks better than non-Anamorphic DVD...
