The trailer for Disney's take on Stephen Sondheim's Into The Woods came out today. I am a huge Sondheim fan and I am very interested to see what they do with this musical. I loved Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

I am wondering how much they have changed. I know they had to cut the sexual overtones between Red and the Wolf since they cast a young girl for Red. And the second act gets quite dark. This isn't a "Disney" fairy tale, nor really a comedic fractured fairy tale like Enchanted. The second act is definitely PG-13. I wonder how many Soccer Moms are going to take their precious Princess Snowflakes thinking it will be similar to other Disney Princess movies. Haha, this should be interesting.

I'm hesitant on anything Rob Marshall does. Chicago was fine enough, but his subsequent movies have been subpar. However, this is good source material. I just worry because Disney is producing it, the true themes of the musical will not be presented. It's a pretty depressing play and heavy handed. Disney is more concerned with profit than anything else, though.

That said, I can't wait to see Legend Kendrick slay.

There were reports that a lot of crucial stuff (the affair and a few deaths) were cut, in addition to the complete excising of sexuality between the Wolf and Red. In other words... look for a very pretty, but heavily sanitized rendition, which is a damn shame.

I had no idea that this was in the works. I hope Rob put a leash on Depp.

So they completely Disneyified a really good musical...I don't get why they did that when Once Upon a Time is probably contains more adult themes than Into the Woods does. Ugh.

It's clear that Johnny Depp's appearance as the Wolf will try to remain hidden until time of release. I wonder how long until it gets leaked.

A clip of Depp shows up. Mercy, this looks promising. Great tale.

Yeah, this feature changes my opinion of the thing dramatically (for the better). Everyone freaking out about the gaudiness of the Entertainment Weekly cover shoot was for naught - all of the costumes look very appropriate under proper lighting and composition (including Depp's Wolf). Very excited for this... and happy that "Any Moment" (i.e. the prince and the Baker's Wife) is back in. Dunno how they'll handle "I Know Things Now" (Red's song after her encounter with the Wolf) given Red's age, but, we'll see.

I'm definitely going to see this. High hopes, but cautious. I am a BIG fan of Into The Woods, and Disney could easily do it right but it also wouldn't be too hard for them to mess it up. Certain things NEED to happen in this film for it to be a success (in my opinion). SO, yeah... I'd say I'm excited but cautious

Opening in just a couple of weeks! I'm really excited to see it! Huge fan of this musical with its dark comedy and mix of classic fairy tales. Aside from the Disney-fication of it, I have high hopes that it'll be a good adaptation. It already looks and sounds stunning from the clips and trailers released, and the cast is pretty awesome. And there's a lot of good buzz about it in general. Fingers crossed that it will live up to the fun of the original, even with the changes.

I see no reason they needed to cut anything. The lyrics are all very adult innuendo that would fly over most 15 year old heads; so clever and well written that it might fly above some 50 yo brains.

The only cut I will miss is "No More" - but with the father/narratior pretty much cut the song would make no sense at all

And to this I say I will miss the original father on broadway, Edmund Lyndeck. I love his raspy tubular voice. He was also the original Judge Turpin. Edmund Lyndeck is 89 now. What a pisser.
