I think the comparison of quality and expense and embellishments of interior design (a mural, a train, custom brass filigree, gorgeous millwork...) of this DVC sales office -- which will have fairly moderate foot-traffic -- compared to the newly remodeled Emporium retail on Main Street at the Magic Kingdom (which will be packed elbow to elbow) paints a pretty clear picture who has budget to spend, and who doesn't.

Both are covered by Blog Mickey articles for those wanting to compare, but here are two photos for quick reference.

Well one is maximizing space to its fullest potential because it’s a busy location.

This has been demonstrated across WDW with certain merchandise locations, restaurants and etc.

While I do question the renovation of the Emporium it’s clearly an unfinished space. I think we have to be careful when we try to spin certain narratives because things don’t function in a vacuum.

P.S. Disney can be really heavy handed with certain remodels and I hate when they remove theming for no other reason but greed.

To be honest, I'm not totally sure I understand your note, but I wish I did and I'm interested in your viewpoint.

For what it's worth, I think they're worthy of comparing because they are similar sized spaces being remodeled in the same time period and resort. One is dripping with detail and embellishment and historical charm. The other is quite modern and plain and cheap: drywall walls meeting drywall ceiling, lacking millwork, historic detailing, etc. Given there are pictures hanging on the walls of the Emporium, I'm considering it pretty "finished." I'll be surprised if finish carpenters are coming back to add crown molding or coffered ceiling beams, etc. at this point (unless they get motivated by the criticism!).

But because I'm passionate about this stuff, I'm going to go a step further and make a deeper point about the consideration and thoughtfulness of the DVC space compared to the Main Street space. In the DVC space, if you look at the coffered ceiling beams and where they meet the walls, there's a pilaster there (essentially a half column/surface column, with a decorative cornice at the top, and the pilasters are nicely fluted). This is absolutely spot on, architecturally. Because even though NONE of this is actually structural; (load-bearing) it was done accurately/logically as if it was load-bearing (and real). The load -- the weight of structure above -- would be carried by the coffer beams over to the walls and then that load would be carried down by the pilaster (column). That is how buildings work, and whoever did this interior design did their research, they understand historic architecture and building methods.

That is exactly why the original Imagineers were were so good and why Disneyland was so great, because as Hollywood art directors and set designers, they knew real architecture and employed that same experience they used to design sets for period-piece movies (not just for Disney but MGM, etc. too) in designing Disney's architecture (especially Main Street and Frontierland).

Okay, over at the Emporium, those blocky columns and the varying heights of the openings between the spaces, all wrapped in drywall... And the wallpaper on the right side that meets the drywall ceiling with no millwork, no crown molding? That is absolutely not what a turn-of-the-century building would look like inside. It is, essentially, wrong (and cheap, it's both). So, when I look at these spaces, it's not just that one has color and texture and mixed materials and embellishment, it's that one was done by a designer (or team) that is working at a higher level than the other and/OR the DVC space was working with a bigger budget whether in buying materials and construction labor...or design talent.

My point is simply these spaces are designed for different purposes.

One gets a lot of traffic so Disney decided to sacrifice extra theming for maximum space.

Another is a hidden small space in the Canada. pavilion. Most World Showcase projects are given decent budgets and attention to detail.

Of course there is some exceptions like the Morocco fountain tile work or the France creperie where the ball was dropped.

Otherwise I agree with your general criticisms of the Emporium and think they should do better.

No clue. I remember it was escalators prior but not sure what’s left to do now. It’s like a big refurbishment, but without ever closing down.

So Disney is moving the DJ dance party inside CommuniCore Hall during the summer since its unbearable to be outside in the hot Florida sun on top of turf.

Great to see them update the hall on a seasonal basis, but hilarious for them to have spent years building an outdoor stage that won't be utilized during half the year in Florida.

Full menu dropped for the GEO-82 lounge: Dining Menu

The cocktail prices are pretty wild. Is there any other bar on any theme park property (much less inside a gate) where the drinks start at $23? Even Enchanted Rose's Grand Cocktails start at $17.50

Epcot was not really crying out for one more place to get drinks from, so making them the most expensive drinks in any theme park is certainly a bold swing. Not sure who the market is other than influencers. Mushroom flatbread sounds good though.

This may be true, I don't know. But I hear the reservations until July went fast. Which got me thinking...IF more lounges would be welcome, I have an idea for one:

The Test Track building has a lounge area, and the attraction sponsor is General Motors. Next year, GM's Cadillac brand is launching a new Formula 1 team...which is a big deal, it doesn't happen often (it will be the 11th team on the grid, first new team since 2016).

I think it could be great marketing for GM/Cadillac to turn that lounge above Test Track into a Cadillac F1 Club lounge, celebrating their entry into F1 and with theming, car models, etc. A lot of F1 fans would love to see that, and it could turn them into Cadillac Team fans. The psychographic of guests going on Test Track and potentially embracing Cadillac F1 is perfect.

And it's a great way for Disney to tap some of the enthusiasm behind F1, both with US fans and international fans coming to Orlando.

It's pretty evident by Disney and Universal's actions that they are looking into more lounge/bar spaces inside their parks. Epic proves that theory with several bars/lounges throughout the park, and Disney is adding more at their parks, with MK getting it first.

I think the demand's there for lounge spaces, but I fear Geo-82's pricing is a bit too much. The parks need more lounge areas, so hoping it's a success.

Especially since Disney owns the company broadcasting those races in the United States. I think this is a great idea.

I wonder how those prices compare to the new Pirates Bar in Adventureland MK. Maybe they'll be this high too.

As a fan of a good Old Fashioned, I am not paying $28.

Plus, blazing hot theme park is not really what I want to be doing while drinking a good Bourbon. That is more tequila territory. Fortunately...
