How much did E.T. cost to build?

So we all know that E.T. was among the first of Universal Orlando's attractions, and like Kongrontation, Jaws, etc, it was filled with tons of theming, animatronics, and effects. My question is: does anyone know how much the ride cost to build at the time? With the amount of detail in the forest alone let alone the number of figures and the new John Williams score, I feel like it would have had a pretty big price tag back in the day.
