Paramount Picture's and Netflix has inked a massive, Multi-Picture deal; which will give Netflix a massive gain in quite a few films.

Paramount And Netflix Set Multi-Picture Film Deal | Deadline

As of now, the number of films affected are unclear, but this is not the first time that the two have collaborated on bringing films to Netflix.

its a win for Paramount and a loss of Netflix...the reason I'm stating that is because if you look at most things watched on streaming services, TV shows/mini-series do much better than films due to the format.

Netflix (and Amazon) seem determined to change this though.

Two style films are blockbusters both which Netflix/Amazon aren't really after...Animation and Action Films. Action films are things people want to watch in theatres as most home theaters due to house sizes don't have mega screens, IMAX digital projectors, and all the additional things that movie theaters do (motion seats, 3D, etc). Add in the reports of JJ Abrams leaving Paramount, they are losing the biggest action film/sci-fi/blockbuster producer the studio current has. Animation is something Netflix is getting into now but still Paramount/Viacom will have to choose netflix over their personal endeavors. Amazon however is moving the opposite way with more adult focused fare than kid fare.

Blockbusters seem to be the sweet spot for movie theaters and movie studios.

Once upon a time, studios still made smaller movies. If a blockbuster is a home-run, these movies would be doubles. Netflix kind of tried to do some blockbusters, but that’s just because they try everything at least once. The Paramount quote makes it sound like Netflix will be the new distribution venue for doubles instead of bringing them to theaters.

Disney’s streaming plans sound a lot like that too.
