I agree

T2's pre-show had this 'sinister Epcot attraction' type vibe to it and a lot of personality

Bourne is a bit different in that it feels much more serious and stoic(?)...But I also can't say that those two vibes don't represent their respective films

Oh, yeah, it ABSOLUTELY matches the property, but it just feels overly long and clunky with exposition.

Having the live actor in the T2 pre-show helped insert some humor while still clueing the audience into the main story. It just FELT faster as far as pre-shows go.

This show was great. Loved T2:3D, it was sad to see the state it was in near the end, but this feels like a very worthy replacement.

The masks do break the illusion at times, especially when masked Bourne gets dunked into water and becomes maskless Bourne, but I understand it's for safety reasons.

Saw it twice while there and will definitely try to see it more than once the next time I ever head there.

Actors are no longer required to wear mask in the show. Also does anyone know why they don’t use the right catwalk anymore? They fixed it a few months ago but still hasn’t been used by performers

Saw this on Saturday for the first time, very impressive. Set pieces were cool and can't hardly tell what's screen/what's real. I never had the chance to see T2, but thought this was great.

Yes. It turned out even better than most of our expectations. And, it's even better with repeat viewings. Universal nailed this.

I wonder how this will affect the show if at all.

Interesting situation. I wonder how the contract was written up for theme park utilization.

I like Bourne, but I wouldn't mind a more relevant IP in its place. I think the Bourne merch has been withered down to like 4 feet of merchandise space lol

My assumption is that these contracts are written up in a way that they won't affect theme park attractions.

USF has enough to do - much less do a quick retheme of Bourne lol

Losing the rights to future films doesn’t lose the rights to the ones you already made. Which is what the attraction is based on.

Although I do wonder if they were paying a licensing fee to the original author, and if that fee needs to be forwarded to the new owner.

That's what I'm intrigued by. Is it a year to year agreement, or did Universal lock in something for a few years? Are they required to negotiate with the new owner or the estate only? The new owner can be a PITA and Universal could decide to jump ship in favor of something better.

Bourne is nearly 5 years old now (can't believe that) so the newness has worn off a bit. Not saying to immediately replace, but in 2-3 years I can see something change in favor of a better IP?

It's probably like JAWS or Jurassic Park, where they got the rights to make a movie, and they can do whatever they want in the parks as long as its based on their movie. More likely it's closer to paying residuals than licensing a property. Since, unlike WB and Potter, in this case they own the thing it's based on.

With James Bond going to Amazon it could be rethemed to Bond as they tried to get that originally (if I call correctly).

The IP isn't at the top of its popularity anymore, but it's still a recognizable name; and the show gets high marks.

USF has more pressing needs. Bourne can live for a while.

When I got a notification for this thread I thought something happened.

Wasn't expecting to see "maybe it's time for a retheme" lol

I don't see anything changing with the show for the foreseeable future. This type of rights sale or transaction happens every now and again and isn't a cause for concern. Universal lawyers know what they're doing.

It shouldn't change anything in the immediate future. The capital expenditure to build the attraction almost mandates that the contract has a lifespan built into it. The fact that when Disney, aka competitor right down the street, acquired Marvel, Super Hero island didn't shut down or retheme. Or when Disney acquired Fox Springfield didn't go away and T2 didn't shut down (immidately) should be a good indication for how the contract would most likely be set up.

However, any new arrangement, particularly with any direct competitors, might trigger opt out clauses or mutual interest in abandoning the property leading to changes. But anything like that, for an attraction as new as Bourne, should be YEARS away.

If the franchise goes to a new studio, and if the rights to theme park use costs do not materially change nothing much changes.

If however a new partner reboots/extends the franchise, and the assumption above holds wouldn’t this give the attraction a bump in interest? Surely anyone making new content would only increase the life

Can’t say for certain, but one of the team members passed away recently. Possible they closed for one day.
