Here’s my quick review of my first visit to the park a month ago in August. I’ve avoided ride thru and park videos up to this point so please excuse if some of my observations below seem obvious:
It’s okay, I liked it more than Singapore’s tiny footprint but I felt the layout was weird (especially the back end of the park from KFP to WWOHP). They were setting up a stage for Scares (their version of HHN), with Hamikuma and Friends graphics plastered on the construction walls. Went on a Thursday and crowds seemed manageable and respectful, without the shoving I had experienced at Shanghai Disney in 2018. The highest wait time was for HP at 120mins.
HTTYD Untrainable: Meh, could’ve used more flying effects. Unlike Hong Kong Disney, no English captions were provided for the shows. I didn’t realize after returning stateside that this was duplicated at Epic.
KFP Land: executed very well but the main boat ride was a dud (second half relied too much on screens and that immense queue with endless switchbacks…I’d hate to be here during peak Golden week). The track layout reminded me of Frozen Ever After…
Jurassic Flyers: I’ve ridden Arthur at Europa Park (same ride system) and this was disappointing; it’s fun but there are no show scenes and you really don’t see anything. Could easily be plussed with some animatronics or stationary figures peppered throughout the track.
JWA: this was a highlight, and the only ride I went on multiple times. Top notch animatronics and design. I heard a “wow” elicited by other guests when the Indominus Rex began chasing the vehicle. My only complaint is that pacing could be better; it too quickly jumps right into “when things go awry” without giving us much beauty and grandeur of JW to relish in.
WWOHP: I didn’t go in but it appeared to be similar to Osaka’s.
Meet and Greets: I took photos with Puss in Boots and the Wicked gals. You are not allowed to touch the talent! I wasn’t going in for a hug but aired putting my arms over the two Shrek cats’ shoulders and got still yelled at by the photographers. Very different policy from the other parks.
Overall, it’s a solid park. I look forward to experiencing their Halloween event in the future.
