Couldn’t they do a similar tactic to USF to IOA, spending the years before a second gate expanding the park as they can? I would have to think that’d be a good formula to copy (just not the terrible resort name change part)

You read my mind. But at the same time wren't there rumors that USB's second gate would be some sort of water park?
If the article is accurate, the quote-on-quote, second phase, expands the resort footprint by around 500 acres.

Nevertheless, it's not inconceivable that USB receives expansions while the overall resort complex slowly grows to accommodate a second park, its hotels, and other required utilities. Maybe that includes a water park.

I'm guessing that they will both add to the existing park and build a second park, and I do believe this is a contractual thing, plus they are supposedly turning a profit already.

It makes sense to add an attraction or two over the next few years before/as a new park is being built, just like in the US parks. I assume that a new park would have a 2029/30 opening, and that would be a long stretch with no new attractions if they didn't add to the existing park between now and then.

China has had some issues that were getting in the front of potential expansion but I believe those are starting to get quelled ., but current park expansion rather than a new gate

Boy, it's been a long time since this thread was used. I know that there was an article back in 2021 dating that a phase two expansion was due for 2025, is there any information on this? It's probably because it's in China but it's strange to not know anything since that article from three years ago.

I’d guess the pandemic put things on hold, but I believe the park is doing OK now that lockdowns have lifted. Not sure what they are contractually obligated to build and on what timeline, but I also assume that site prep would be quick and having something open by 2030 wouldn’t be beyond the realm of possibility.

Interested to see what Universal prioritizes here... something thrilling or family-friendly?

If they go the thrill route - would imagine it's an F&F (or another IP) thrill coaster?

I’m here currently. Top floor of the grand hotel and no construction anywhere where largest expansion pad would be for HP.

A few cranes near HP but more behind the area and I don’t believe on site. I believe there is another complex opening elsewhere and I know an ocean park was approved to be built in this region also but hasn’t started construction either.

I mean… the words construction and China are a bit at odds with each other currently considering construction is the source of the bulk of their financial issues. :lmao:

In other news- the bubba gump at their city walk isn’t operating anymore. No signage or anything. Just an old outline from where the sign used to be. Nothing has replaced it.

City walk on a weekday when school is in session is dead. Being the only people in toothsome for lunch was a trip o_O
