It just seems like with a lot of the other stuff we are seeing architecturally and theming wise....deeper and darker greens, blues and bronzes might have worked better.....but again the fading in the sun thing may have been a factor.

Good point. Colorful Seuss Landing usually fades soon after repainting. That Florida sun is tough.

So much beautiful greenery and landscaping throughout Celestial Park - do we think people will be able to sit in the grass here? I know they said they wanted to put the park back into theme park here…

I remember a few years ago I was at Disneyland and was just trying to find a place to lay down for a bit and there were no patches of grass anywhere to just chill - after Project Stardust barely any benches even.

Hope that’s not the case at Epic.

The amount of guests walking on grass would probably do a lot of damage. The only grass people can stand on is the fake stuff all around the large fountain.

There should still be plenty of shady spots and several cool places to sit throughout the park to admire the scenery. The walkway near the entrance for example does get into that park feeling without being in a park.

I imagine our only grass-like option is the turf seating around the main fountain. But hopefully benches-aplenty!!

I’m hopeful that the remainder of lands have good seating options. SNW at both USJ and USH really don’t, and I imagine that’ll be the same at Epic.

I used to love the grass, trees and benches in Studio's Central Park. I took many quick restful naps there. Alas, 'most' of that has been replaced by concrete. I appreciate the viewing area for the lagoon show, but that was a tough trade off.

When they started working on that stage in Celestial Park near the fountain, in my mind I was sure it would have artificial grass to sit on. I was imagining something like the artificial grass area and bandstand at Downtown Disney at DLR. (People really love that artificial grass and there are always kids running around laughing.) I was surprised when they poured concrete there.

But there are other areas along Celestial Park like this spot alongside Pizza Moon, where an artificial grass area would be a really nice feature.

Out of curiosity, how did you manage to take naps in the middle of a theme park? I'd be way too worried about my stuff getting stolen or kids messing with me.

I don't go to theme parks alone. Generally, my wife Alene, is with me. A couple of times I was at Universal alone when I was on a business trip. I thought that was quite boring without someone to share the experience with. I realize that many of our Forum members go to parks alone and enjoy it, but that's not my cup of tea. The former quiet area, the wall in the lagoon side of the Discovery Center (Velocicoaster is there now) was another good spot. Remaining though, is the lagoon deck that fronts the Olive ship. Rarely does anyone venture down there.

I like your thinking, people currently do it at USF's music plaza... but only during the winter. It becomes a microwave during the summer months unfortunately.

this is part of the reason i'm skeptical that artificial grass is going to be all that pleasant at epic universe for a good stretch of the year. you're basically sitting on plastic and, uh, that doesn't feel very good when it's hot outside.

I was also thinking about the old Central Park area - was a great place to relax and chill in the middle of a busy day. I think theme parks need some places like that.

If they could do real grass at Central Park in USF surely they could maintain some areas like that in Celestial Park? I hate the idea of astro turf.

Isn’t there grassy areas around the hub in MK? Or is that astroturf too… Haven’t been in ages.

Reminds me of Holidayland when Disneyland first opened - just a grassy area where families could picnic on the western edge of the park.

As far as I recall, most of the inner hub at MK is artificial turf now. The outer hub where the trees and shrubs are, may well still be grass I believe..

Aight @Mad Dog , I'm going to need more info here:

1) Are you taking naps on benches?

2) Or on grass?

3) Or on turf? *This cannot be but I'm open to an old guy not feeling the flesh burning until he wakes up. ;)

I've tried on the Jurassic Discovery Center concrete barriers. Even back then when they were still there, I worried about snoring too loud!

How did you do it?!? The world (or maybe just me) needs to know! :lmao::cheers::cheers:

Actually on all three (turf when under a tree)....plus the wall at Jurassic park. Usually I lay my head on Alene's lap, so that's super comfy. It's nice to have a very attractive wife that's much much younger. 15 minutes nap and I'm re energized for the rest of the day. But only at theme parks. Not every day, but only occasionally on a real hot day.. I never take a nap at home....I'm still in great shape from playing high level club soccer most of my life. My surgeon said I had the quickest recovery from a broken hip & broken femur he had ever seen. I was walking without a cane seven days after surgery and completely recovered in 5 weeks. I'm back to normal even though the accident was in October (usual one year rehab for the double break. and this injury has a very high mortality rate plus the pain is indescribable when the break occurs). Recovered and thus I'm booked for Universal Mardi Gras. I think I'm the oldest poster, by far, on IU. 74 and soon to be 75. No smartphones wasted time allows me time to stay in shape :lmao: .And a way younger wife keeps me young. Plus a huge piece of property to take care of, and no riding mowers.
