Universal Kids Resort Reveals Immersive Themed Lands Where Unbridled Creativity and PlayRule the Day

Frisco, Texas (Feb. 21, 2025) – Universal Destinations & Experiences, a division of Comcast NBCUniversal, revealed the themed lands kids and families will experience at Universal Kids Resort – a first-of-a-kind resort specifically designed and developed for families with young children. Opening in 2026 in Frisco, Texas, Universal Kids Resort will feature lands themed around beloved characters including DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek, Puss in Boots, Trolls and Gabby's Dollhouse; Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants; Illumination’s Minions, as well as Jurassic World.

“It’s an amazing opportunity to bring these iconic stories to life for kids and families toexperience, interact with and play together,” said Sarah Gibbon, VP & Executive Producer,Universal Creative. “At each point, we considered how we could design a place especially forkids where they could explore, imagine and adventure with their families and friends. They’ll be able to do all this while being fully immersed in some of their favorite stories – ones full ofcuriosity, laughter and joy.”

Ogre-sized fun awaits in DreamWorks’ Shrek’s swamp themed playground built personally by Shrek. Kids can stomp, ride, laugh and play as they celebrate the magic of friendship, warmth offamily and power of love.

For the best day ever, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick, Sandy Cheeks and Squidward will show guests around their neighborhood under the sea. From earning a boating license to relaxing on the beach as bubbles float by, kids and their families and friends can enjoy the nautical, nonsensical delights.

Next, let the games begin as Illumination’s Minions overrun a peaceful vacation retreat. When Yellow Minions attempt to rein in their Purple counterparts, it leads to a wave of unpredictable, water-soaked fun. Take part in this action-packed competition, or just relax, and watch the chaos unfold. Whatever you choose, every splash, laugh, and surprise might just bring everyone closer together.

Discoveries abound as kids learn about and come face to face with beloved dinosaurs of Jurassic World in uniquely exciting and interactive ways. The new adventure exclusively created for young explorers will be both exhilarating and awe-inspiring.

I think this will be a huge hit for Universal (especially in international smaller markets), if they end up adding a water park component to either the park itself or hotel (or as another gate).

If successful at this park, I'm curious to see if the property could someday have an increased presence in Orlando...

My theory is that the current DreamWorksLand is just temporary. It’s too cheaply done to simply not be. My belief is that Springfield will be replaced by a larger KidZone type area. They could keep the current kiddie area open while building the new phase where Simpsons is. Once that phase is complete, then they can redo DreamWorksLand the way it should have been. This way, they won’t have an extended closure for the much needed kid area.

The best thing about this fan theory is that it allows the current animal actors show and ET adventure to remain untouched.

Except for that wild whirlpool thing!

Yes, it currently looks like a tame lazy river, except the part where guests circle the fountain and get swallowed up by the whirlpool and spit back out at the bottom. Pretty neat effect. I don’t think I’ve seen that before.

For this location, it actually makes sense. It offers up a barrier from the elevated toll road. It protects park guests from road noise which would break the immersion. At the same time, it also becomes a giant billboard to anyone driving by.

I live near Universal Kids Resort. I visited the park last week and took pics of several ride vehicles, tracks, etc. With the help of a friend, I think we figured out what a lot of it is. Zemperla, ZIERER, and Ride Entertainment attractions are on-site. I originally posted a link before I knew the rules. Sorry about that.

Additionally, are there any thematic elements that stand out to be this park's "burning windmill"? While I know that there is a major difference in cash between this park and the other Universal parks, this park will still carry the Universal name, and I'm sure the hope is to get kids hooked on the brand at a young age... so perhaps there's room for an element or two of grandeur and awe?

Speculated Attractions seem to primarily be "Off-The-Shelf" models befitting of a smaller scale park like this; but the Zierer Advanced Dark Ride track being potentially spotted would be a big thing to note of as of recent.

Thematic elements would be big with SpongeBob, as it seems the conceptual will be showing that we will be able to walk to SpongeBob, Squidward, and Patrick's houses (alongside the Krusty Krab). This will be having the first real "SpongeBob" land done for a theme park to a scale that seems to be similar to a Springfield.
