Not going to say anything now, but there are some sightlines that are going to give Diznerds a seizure.

Because it's bad or because they're looking for it, because the HoP show building is BAD but no one talks about THAT.

I don't think constantly trying to troll those of us who care about sightlines is all that appropriate. But whatever, I guess!

"Sightlines" is close to becoming the new "screenz." Used as a punchline that makes it very difficult to have even reasonable, level-headed discussions about the subject.

Berk’s sightlines are the worst in the park.

Stardust I don’t mind because it had to go somewhere and the bright colors sort of mesh with the stands and flat ride (more than any other land would), but there’s numerous places where you can see the meticulous theming end and the flat gray/green building begin, especially in the queue for and on ride of Wing Gliders.

Some of it could still be fixed, but it would require additional structures or trees to make meaningful changes to the view at this point.

All joking aside, it really is my only complaint about the park on the whole, so if it feels like I’m a broken record on it it’s because I’m pretty happy with just about everything else.

I'm sure they'll get better when the park is officially open though. I just don't see the need to gripe about it now when it's not open yet. Feels a lot like an non-issue especially for those here who haven't even gone yet.

I think they’ll get better too (see the Monsters building being painted to match the manor, as an example), but I don’t think it’s unfair to comment on what is currently being presented, especially after having seen things in person.

If you think that’s griping, that’s your prerogative, but my first impressions of the park included sightlines as one of the negative factors.

I have no issues with you guys discussing sightlines.

It’s more than fair to bring that up as something to discuss however when the conversation starts to become engulfed on that particular issue thats when I feel there needs to be some balance.

You can see Cinderella Castle in every single land in Magic Kingdom and no one questions it so I don't know what the issue is?

In my mind the story is: “The Celestians built the Helios Grand to guide you home if you ever got lost on your travels.”

And I plan on telling that to all my Disney friends I take there until it makes it on the Disney Blogs!

Except I don’t think Helios will be visible from every land. I doubt you’d see it over the walls in Nintendo or Potter or from Berk so why only maybe visible from Monsters?

Either that I’m missing a ton from this conversation I didn’t take part in lol.

Agreed. Theme parks are not amusement parks because of the detail. Or as some would say, the theme(s).

FJ has a bit of the show building that you can see. Does anyone care? (I do a little.)

What do we think about Guardians of the Galaxy? It is giant warehouse painted blue.

Disney set an impossible standard when they built Tower of Terror and had the sightlines line up with Morocco. I love how they did that!

Swan and Dolphin, on the other hand, started what we have today - cheap lazy ways around this. Paint the building "sky blue" rather than figure it out.

To sum up: it is not a big deal if you can see Space Mountain from Barnstormer. We don't need to invent an impossible standard. Also, build a great facade in front your warehouse ride building, like FJ did for all except for that little corner*.

*I'll come over there for free and slap premixed rockwork on that corner. Call me.

I just want to caution against generalizing or creating strawmen here. I haven’t seen anyone on this board present a sightline comment in a partisan way, and a bad sightline at Magic Kingdom doesn’t magically improve one at Epic Universe.

If you don’t care about sightlines (i’m on record as mostly not caring), fair enough. But I do think the people on this board who do care have been pretty levelheaded and reasonable despite knowing they have a largely minority view.

FJ’s showbuilding has bothered me since it opened, so I’m with you there. At the end of the day, what bothers me most is when I can see a themed element visibly attached to an unthemed box. It’s why I’ll always prefer Diagon to Hogsmeade, despite having no love in my heart for Gringotts whatsoever.

I think Universal has set the expectation that all of the lands are ‘immersive’, which draws more attention to elements that pull you out of that (such as showbuildings or views into other lands). Cinderella Castle being visible from everywhere is different for me because the park was never designed to isolate the lands from each other in the first place.

That said, I do like your hotel headcanon and will be rolling with that going forward, and maybe the internal logic was that seeing Celestial from anywhere is fine as long as you can’t see Nintendo from Potter, etc

Is there a canon, park-lore reason that the Celestians [?] decided to build a luxury Loews Hotel in Celestial Park?

My comparison isn't that one excuses the other, instead that MK has been around for 50 years where sighlines have improved since the park opened OR ones where it's still noticeable it's hand waved away because that's how it's always been. It's more a comment on Epic being new and folks being more picky over it.

Yes but ignoring one and caring about the other is a little inconsistent. You can see the hotel from every land. Even potter and Nintendo. Does that make it any less incredible of a park. No.
