More GOOD news! I'm glad they're listening to this feedback.

Just perhaps … the park wasn’t really ready to open.. and some of the lack of theming is due to them running out of time or overall budget. Seems like they learned pretty quickly that expectations were much higher.

Yeah, nobody worth their salt working on this project needed us to tell them where they needed to improve. If they’re able to use criticism to martial more resources, more power to them.

It's also probably worth stressing that the creatives and build teams behind this project were likely well aware of some or even all of the shortcomings discussed here. Just like in movies, there's never enough time, and there's never enough money.

Not excusing Universal at large, but folks on the ground undoubtedly understand what improvements are necessary and were likely already advocating for them.

They wanted to open in April. Then May. Then June. But the Minions water ride just wasn't ready. And not just its aesthetics. We're not sure exactly what was causing the delays, but TMs confirmed it had issues.

Universal was in a tough spot. The summer was slipping away. School had been out for 40 days by July 1. So they made the choice to open with some bare walls.

Also, day one's shade was miles ahead of what we encountered during previews. I doubt those updates were due to guest feedback. Everyone knew umbrellas were needed, including the TMs on the ground. They were suffering more than guests were. Visitors were never far from AC, while they had to take pics of families hugging SpongeBob without any sun protection. They all have umbrellas now.

I do hope that guest feedback influences them to build indoor rides exclusively in the expansion lands. And perhaps throw up some canopies over a few existing rides, especially in Bikini Bottom.

Same for video games, the folks working on the product are the most aware of the flaws.

I found new Minions murals last night, which made me realize that these are going up way too fast to be painted. I shared my pics with Twitter's Aahs n Oohs, who immediately clocked it. These are vinyl.

Glad to see more updates are being made. If anything bothers me the most out of the park, it's that pit. It seems the original idea from the concept art was to blend the waterfront with Bikini Bottom and make it look like a beach area. Not sure why they pivoted to this route.

I remember being surprised when the first drone videos showed how recessed the reservoir is. In their defense, if the basin matched the concept art, the whirlpool would need to be much taller than it is now.

In hindsight, the concept artists channeled M.C. Escher/Penrose Stairs vibes with this ride.

We'd love to see some fountains. I've spotted some capped fixtures in the water, but I have no idea what they're for.

Thanks for posting! I’m down at the Cinemark down the tollway for an event and now I can go pop in for a little afterward.

Take a pic when you can, if you don’t mind.

They’d likely need an electrical connection too for any colored lights or powered raising/lowering of a fountain track.

But that area needs a fountain desperately. It’s right at the entrance and the first thing that would catch your eye at the curved lookout area.

Having the wraps on minions helps that area a ton for a “weenie” to look at, but a fountain would make a huge difference. Especially with coordinating music and mini shows.

I took a few through the ripples. I'll track them down later today.

Add this one (and a few others) to the middle of the reservoir.

Maybe. I would prefer a generic (mini) EU style version instead with LEDs and music; but I'm also in my 40s, so I can see an argument for ones with minions or any/all characters of the park.

I think a generic fountain is much more plausible. And it makes sense since the water borders Minions and Bikini Bottom.
