Indy was closed during my recent visit and it was announced after I booked my trip. I should of pitched a fit but I didn't because I'm an adult. People just need to be notified of the closure in advance and it will be fine.

If LoTR comes to Universal, I would be beyond thrilled, because I'm a huge fan and I know UOR could do it right, but I see this more as a third gate than just a section, because there is so much that could be incorporated! I have figured out a lot of what could go into a park, or even a section, from watching the films many times. Unfortunately, I don't think the space is there for a third gate. I see this more going into a rethemed Marvel that into Toon, although if I had to choose one based on what I would miss the least, it would be Toon.

Everyone seemed to skim over this one comment here....so basically this would be a land SOLEY based on The Hobbit am I correct? And I'm guessing that it could ONLY be Hobbit since WB is who is distributing it now and they didn't distribute LOTR.

No, no. 2 of my most trusted sources are saying all of this is BS. That Universal is not thinking about ANY Tolkien IPs at all. But 2 others that have had good solid info before are saying they are.

So to be honest. I have no idea about the validity of this rumor. But someone is feeding the fanbois something.

I have had a feeling that in the end this rumor was either false from the get go or would ultimately turned down by the Tolkien estate, unable to negotiate concepts or price.

I think that's the kicker. Why should Uni fork over big bucks when it already has Potter? It's coming to the point where IPs should want to be in Uni's parks. No need to break the bank if it's going to be a hassle.

Now that I've had a little time to process this, I'm okay with the LOTR land not happening. Right now, IOA is "that park with Harry Potter Land." IOA is like a celebrity that had one big break; great before the big break but relatively unknown, thrust into the spotlight for a major role, and now what? If it just goes and gets a new identity, it would be successful of course but the park could have some slight identity crisis and it could even cause confusion.

WWOHP will be the anchor of the park for at least the next 5-10 years. It's okay that visitors only know that Harry Potter is at IOA, but they need to leave with a different impression. IOA needs solid C- and D-tickets that round out the park.

The problem is that most of the islands at IOA are tied to IPs. They can't introduce IPs without introducing a new land altogether.

WB purchased New Line Cinama in 1996 and merged with their WB distribution in 2008. So they have the rights to distribution of the LOTRs movies.

Am I the only one that thinks that the Tolkien Estate will give this project the all go? I mean, they approved Lego Lord of the Rings- from what I have seen it takes the Mickey :ears: out of the series and is only loosely based off the trilogy that they (apparently) didn’t like. With JK Rowling endorsing Universal to the heirs explaining how much leeway and authority she had in the process (even being able to make theme park no-no decisions such as stupidly small shops); why would they decline to see an authentic immersive representation of their fathers’ legacy for the world to explore?

And I am expecting the default reply to this message will be along the lines of "Lego them paying them money" but still; why complain about Peter Jacksons films when he clearly cares about the franchise (anyone who knows anything about the pre-production/production processes for TLOTR and the Hobbit knows he is perseverant and dedicated) and then go and sell out to a video game company which is essentially what has taken children and youth away from literature? (Video games, not Lego/Traveller's Tales)

Wow, I heard that someone else has written a second article concerning the WDW shake up that should be posted soon. Sounds like the Main Site is stepping up in the article category.

Read this a few days back on comic book movies web site:

For the first time ever, Christopher Tolkien, the son of J.R.R. Tolkien, has spoken out about Peter Jackson's film adaptations of his father's literary masterpieces.

"I could write a book on the idiotic requests I have received," sighs Christopher Tolkien. He is trying to protect the literary work from the three-ring circus that has developed around it. In general, the Tolkien Estate refuses almost all requests. "Normally, the executors of the estate want to promote a work as much as they can," notes Adam Tolkien, the son of Christopher and Baillie. "But we are just the opposite. We want to put the spotlight on that which is not Lord of the Rings."

Invited to meet Peter Jackson, the Tolkien family preferred not to. Why? "They eviscerated the book by making it an action movie for young people aged 15 to 25," Christopher says regretfully. "And it seems that The Hobbit will be the same kind of film."

This divorce has been systematically driven by the logic of Hollywood. "Tolkien has become a monster, devoured by his own popularity and absorbed into the absurdity of our time," Christopher Tolkien observes sadly. "The chasm between the beauty and seriousness of the work, and what it has become, has overwhelmed me. The commercialization has reduced the aesthetic and philosophical impact of the creation to nothing. There is only one solution for me: to turn my head away."
