Just to make clear, this wasn't a false trail created by us.

Or me. I was told some info. I talked to one of my other sources and he said that he had heard of the negotiations and added stuff I didn't know. We talked back and forth for about 3 days before I started dropping hints. Someone was feeding the fanbois info. I still don't know why. It could have been an intentional false trail. Or it could have been an insiders idea of fun. As I said at WDWMAGIC, a "drop a match and watch it burn" kind of thing. And this one literally EXPLODED! If that was their intention, they got what they were looking for.

Why is there a rumour of removing Sir PJ from the project? I thought he and Uni got on well after collaborating with the new Kong and USH. If he is indeed cut, would they need to start from scratch with new soundtracks and sets etc?

Not PJ and Uni that is the problem it's Tolkien and PJ that's the problem and its his interpretation of the books that would carry over into a themepark. Well that was the rumor anyway

Ah ok. So an example would be - Spielberg adapting Jurassic Park into an extremely successful film, then, the Crichton estate would only approve Uni creating a theme park if there were to be no involvement from Spielberg, but, the park uses John Williams' scores and the same art direction and sets?

I hope this doesn’t happen, when Guillermo del Toro initially stood in for the directing position of the 2nd Middle Earth trilogy people weren’t happy- now that Jackson has created 6 films in Middle Earth; people associate them to each other and I can’t see the fans happy without PJ aboard the project.
