They need to be taken back to the drawing board. I am surprised that ITEC claims Imenhotep as theirs proudly.

I must be completely lacking in AA taste...I've never thought Imhotep looked THAT bad. Sure, he's no Disney AA, but when he first pops out, I think he looks pretty decent (until you get up close and see that he's just made of rubber skin, lol).

I still think imhotep is impressive, he's just pretty rusty looking. They should just put the singapore AA in his place, that thing is sick

Let me clarify that I think that all humanistic AAs at both Disney and Universal look silly so...

It seems both Disney & Universal have continual problems with AA maintainance. I'd guess it's just inherent in the nature of AA's due to the huge number of repetitive motions. I'm always reading how so many people prefer AA's to screens, but I can see why both Disney & Universal are becoming less enamored with AA's, probably due to their continual breakdowns. I'm always reading refurbishment schedules where Disney & Universal are repairing AA's, so I don't think either park system is neglecting repairs, it's just that the AA's are what they are, and that is they are problematic. It seems like the major ones work OK for 6 months to a year and then they need shut down to reset or fix their issues.......... So I don't really have a problem with Universal or Disney since it seems they are doing the best they can, but the AA's just refuse to co-operate. LOL on that last point.

Screens are definitely cheaper than AAs. Can't argue with that. I prefer a mixture of the two personally, but I can't blame them for going the screen route.

Personally, I agree with that 100%.

You don't build a traditional home with clay but you'd be a fool to use wood, aluminum siding, and plaster to build a Renaissance sculpture. It's all about application and use. Disney probably wished it would have used a large scale projection effect for the Yeti and I think Gringotts would be improved with some sort of physical animated figures.

Well there's always just something more special about seeing a character in the flesh rather than on film, that's what makes a good AA. A character that's in his respected area doing something recognizable such as jack sparrow. Riding next to potter on a broom using screen tech in one thing but having a dementor fly in your personal space brings you into the experience like no other. AAs are needed and help the immersion on many levels that screens just can't, that's pretty much my view on it

The River Adventure was in dire straits. The animatronics have never looked worse. They were running the ride with the second Hadrosaur stuck in the upright position for the entire trip. Both raptors were broken and barely moving. Tiffany started her motions 10 seconds too late, as did the Ultrasaur. The ride was just awkward.

They strip the "skin" off the AAs once a year for the refurb and repair the mechanics in them before replacing the skin, right?

I'm still a huge fan of AA's in the parks. I'm still dumbfounded by the fact that they got away with making Transformers without ONE.

As for the rides being in bad shape, it depends on when you go. Now that the holidays are over and extended hours are up, they'll be refreshed and looking better in no time.

I totally agree about Transformers. I remember hearing about the ride when it first opened in Singapore and I was so excited thinking we would actually get a ride with some huge bots...nope...nothing but screens. I still like the ride, but nowhere near as impressed as I was hoping to be.

As for the other AA's in the park, I'm sure they'll get their attention in the refurbs.

I'm sorry, I just don't really believe that. The same scaled armored animatronic at Times Square in Men in Black has been straight up broken for years. Years. Dudley has been a mess for years. Imhotep I has been a mess for years. I've been taking trips years apart and they're always awful. I just don't understand how they let it get this bad... and when they do, why it isn't taken care of. It's embarrassing.

I'm not really a frequent poster here but I follow closely and recently went to the park (between Christmas and New Years) and have a few musings...

Seuss Landing: This area used to be a pass through for me, but I went on Cat in the Hat due to the praise it generally receives on these boards and honestly just don't see it. It was just underwhelming in every way (not due to the lack of spinning, since I've gone on it before then), and I don't really think it holds up to the Disney dark rides. That being said, I think a large scale refurb would do wonders for this attraction (impressive animatronics, etc.)

Lost Continent: Okay, now this area is a pure walkthrough. Sinbad is a joke and Poseidon is not far behind. Great theming notwithstanding, when a land's best feature is a talking fountain you know something must change. Thankfully, it appears this will be the case in the near future.

Harry Potter: Forbidden Journey was better than I had remembered, and everything seemed to be working. This land was really great.

Jurassic Park: Okay, heres where things get a little dicey. Jurassic Park is great, it really is. The area just feels like an unfinished work in progress as of now. River adventure could use a refresh (the gate was propped open the entire time, so we missed the epic opening, the dinosaurs seemed a bit off, the hardrosaur was stuck in the upright position, the ultrasaur seemed super rubbery, etc). I still thoroughly enjoyed the ride and these are a bit nitpick, I just know that nowadays Universal is capable of better, realistic animatronics. Also, the land needs a smaller experience in the Triceratops plot to tie it together.

Toon Lagoon: Also actually better than I had remembered since my last visit...Dudley was a mess but still somehow enjoyable and Popeye was great. I would say refresh Dudley extensively but that doesn't really make sense if the land is on the chopping block. Hate to see Popeye go though. PUT SOMETHING IN THE THEATER ALREADY.

Marvel: Spiderman was great, and I enjoyed the Hulk for what it is, but I don't really like the other two rides, as I don't see the need for rides like that. But I guess they're not taking the place of anything else major so they don't really bother me too much.

Overall, the park just needs to be fleshed out. The ambience of the entire park is SO amazing, it just seems that, with several relatively simple improvements (although huge undertakings like Kong and eventual Seuss expansion are obviously awesome), the park could feel so much better. The rides that currently exist all have huge potential but the only two home runs are Potter and Spiderman. I get the toon lagoon negligence because their time is limited but I would really give some love to JP and CITH at the very least. Oh, and a nighttime show. Place is a ghost town at night.

IOA needs so much. I enjoy the start and the look of the islands but for me. All I every do is Spider-Man, Poseidons Fury, FJ(if it's been a while or I have guest) and Cat in the Hat. Then I leave.

Some live shows would help fill it out. JP needs the raptor mini show that Singapore has. Plus another attraction. A Legendary Truth game throughly the islands. Would be awesome! Even if it's a dream. Jeez a nighttime show wouldn't kill them.

What about those interactive maze things Japan has where you have to solve puzzles to get out of the house or the Resident Evil House thats not just at halloween where you have to actually shot the zombies while going through the house? I think that would work better than the phone thing and would take excitement out of the interactive wands.

I have a similar short list of attractions. My average day in the parks starts at Islands, and I generally only hit Spidey, Hulk, FJ, and DC before catching the train to USF. FFB beats the vast majority of IoA's food offerings imo, so that's why I finish up IoA in the morning; haven't eaten lunch anywhere else since FFB opened. Obviously with that plan I never even see Toon Lagoon or JP, so I think Kong is going in just the right spot, at least.
