Teebs....do you know if the interior will be themed with rock work too or will it just be staircases and ramps and steel beams?

I don't actually know, but I would imagine so. I imagine themed rooms that float inside the structure... much like the projection cave and other themed tunnels on Everest.

If this has already been posted, sorry, but Google streetview around UOR has been completely updated. New images are from April 2014 - Sept 2014. I just walked around Cabana Bay and the backside of UOR towards Gringotts and Kings Cross.

So the giant mound of dirt where the volcano with apparently be is getting bigger and bigger. Makes me wonder if there will be any significant inside portions at all.

That's earthmoving prep work, not the volcano itself.

Oh, apparently I-Drive put a new flier out that removed King Kong and the water park from the list of upcoming attractions. I can only imagine the panic in the UOR management offices when the worst kept secrets in theme parks became even worse kept.

This is reaching comical levels of nervousness

Especially when at least one of the dates was likely incorrect.

By this point and time Universal might as well just announce both. We all know they're coming...why not continue to kick Disney while they're already behind?

They do not want it widely announced right now because it might affect their immediate numbers for the coming year. They don't want families cancelling their April, June, October vacations in anticipation of Kong.

I don't see Kong being the type of attraction people cancel their trips for. Plan for, yes. But not cancel, if that makes sense.

To clarify, the conversation was about International Blvd's post about both Kong and the Waterpark (that was mislisted as opening in 2016 as well). I personally feel that such info could result in many cancellations and rebookings.

My family just cancelled their visit this year. people in their upper 20's and beyond have a nostalgic feeling for Uni for Kong, Jaws, Back to the future, etc. They would want to taste a bit of Kong since he's coming back. My dad is one of them. he found out (sadly through me) that Kong was coming back and now they are going somewhere else this Fall because he wants to see Kong again.

Don't underestimate the power of Kong. I'm skipping Universal for Disney this year because I'm greatly anticipating Kong for 2016.

If Transformers and Springfield were enough to keep people coming in anticipation for Diagon freaking Alley, Diagon is more than enough to keep people from waiting for Kong.

Universal management's skittishness displays a worrying lack of faith in their product.

The power of Kong means nothing outside of the theme park fan demographic.

Edit: And by that I mean the power for you to consider to drop a trip to wait for it. Joe Shmo from Anywheresville, USA isn't gonna tell his little girl she can't go get a wand because a giant monkey she's never heard of is coming to IoA sometime next year

My point is, they don't want it posted in the larger news for a very good reason. Argue the hell out what that reason is, but there is a good reason that they feel is serious and justified. They aren't schoolgirls with a kiss and tell secret.

So if you are going to say no to an idea, you had better come up with your own opposing view as to why they are doing it.

I know that's WHY they are doing it. I'm saying it's a dumb, overly-cautious fear that shows little faith in their own product.

It's also a fear that may not be looked at fondly by some within their parent company. Just sayin'.

I got a short survey from Universal two days ago concerning whether we were planning a spring Universal vacation, and if not, why and when we were coming back. Anyone else get that?

IMO. I'm kind of with them with the hush hush:

1. Uni is learning how to deal with their demographics instead of trying to compete fully with the mouse down I-4. We know that when our brothers and sisters from other countries make plans to come to Orlando, they plan and come regardless because it's a lot of time and money for them. excluding them, a significant portion of Uni's customers are Americans, who have other options at vacationing and other opportunities to return. when spring break hit for me the other year, I didn't come to Orlando because I knew Harry Potter was coming in June...so i went somewhere else. they just lost a customer and revenue for that quarter. keep it hush until you pass that average threshold where people won't change their vacation plans and then advertise the hell out of it. almost forcing you to return and keeping the crowds for more of the year versus just a mad rush when things open, then dies down. with kong opening next year, people who want to see it probably are going to explore other options this summer. If they don't know about it, they are going to come, see it, and be like "ah man I got to come back and see this." some are blessed the ability have not only knowledge of what's coming, but open access to get to Uni many times....but they are the vast minority. I feel they are playing their cards right with keeping it quiet.
2. prolonging announcements helps eases the pressure of bad PR. the less people know, the easier it is to adjust schedules, opening dates, and gives you more time to plan your marketing strategy and plan of action.

Oh well. back to the water park

boy howdie that volcano is really building up!!!! :bonk:

You're actually coming here this year and skipping Universal to go to Disney??? Why? What reason could they have possibly given you to go visit them instead? They haven't built anything of real substance in a few years, and unless you have t visited since before 2012, I don't see why you'd spend more to go to a place that currently offers you less than it did back then.

Apple is going to release a new Iphone in September/October. I know it, you know it, they know it. When will they announce it? about 2-3 weeks before you can buy it. Why don't they announce it months ahead of time? Cause the ones who know will wait to see what the new ones will do. The ones who don't know will just go buy a new phone the day before they announce it cause they don't know there is a new one coming out. But if they knew they could wait a few weeks and get a new model, they might hold off. It seems to be working for them. I can't fault Universal for doing the same.

They seriously had the I-Drive master planning committee change the flier?

Everyone who looks at that website has already seen it anyway, because they were likely at the event and have a copy of the original. I saw people from 9 and 13 with that paper in hand, so if they haven't run anything on it yet, nothing will be run. The paranoia and skittishness is ridiculous.
