Mmmm..so they were just being negative then..

It would appear that they have a good amount of experience with the Magic Bands or they wouldn't be complaining about them..

It's funny they mention they 'ran out of things to do'...they clearly haven't visited HS in a while..

Universal dosen't need Magic Bands..

Just nipping it in the bud before it gets out of hand, this isn't Universal vs Disney outright; or Disney bashing time

Like I said, this is an average family. They probably only visit one park a year...no idea if they have visited Hollywood Studios. Should I ask the single mother of two, to set up a Orlando United account so she can properly argue her point?

Regardless of your opinion on the MagicBands, it does give Disney a very distinct point of parity (go to any outlet mall around here and tell me how many people you see wearing them, its something people inevitably notice) that sets them up to look like industry leaders.

Outside of Orlando? Zero

I absolutely agree, well, not as much with MagicBands hurting Universal's image but with them making Disney look like a cut above the competition to the general public. As much as nerds on the Internet seem to hate it, I still stand by my position that MM+ is incredible in scope and influence. In fact, one of my relatives at a top hotel company was just talking about their hope to replicate the tech (to at least a small degree) in their resorts and hotels.

You do know hotels were doing the RFID stuff way before Disney was, right?

Wait...are you saying people where these bands when they aren't in the park? ..are you just referring to Orlando tourists visiting the mall?
Oh yeah, I've seen it...probably mostly foreign mall tourists lol. But they definitely have a presence outside of the parks themselves. I've seen em at Universal a handful of times too.

Oh yeah, for sure. Didnt mean to imply differently.

Yes, but the application is different. Cars have existed since the early 1900's but they weren't I8's.

and as far as the "ran out of things to do"...that falls back on the old "not enough family rides" argument. One kid is 6 the other is 9, and I would imagine the 6 year old couldn't go on all the rides.

If you want to hear the positives, the kids loved the Simpsons food court area and carnival games despite never watching the TV show (kids these days).

Yeah that just comes down to their personal preference. Even for a 6 year old I feel like Universal gives you a well-rounded day. I find it harder and harder to be able to bang out both parks in a day when I go with my gf for full days.

yeah, that's a different argument, and I didn't really ask every ride the family went on. That would seem a little "weird". Not everyone is a theme park geek. lol.

I'm more interested in the idea that Disney is somehow "superior" due to having magic bands vs traditional ticket systems. Despite UOR having newer and impressive theme park rides.

If you walk into the park thinking...oh this isn't as advanced as Disney...does it effect your overall opinion of the rest of the park experience?

I don't know. It's weird that a "Disney-experienced" family would complain about state of the art when many attractions and areas are all about nostalgia. Ignoring MM+, there isn't really anything cutting edge currently* at Disney.

*currently, as in right now. Not tomorrow. Not whenever Avatar opens. Right now.

I never thought he meant outside of Orlando.

However if you are out and about in Orlando, you will see many people with them on and those bands automatically signify "Disney World" in people's minds now, which is good from a marketing prospective.

So let me throw this one out there.

Disneyland does not use Magic Bands correct? So do you think the general public would be more impressed with Disney World over Disney land simply because of these bands?

This is such an argument over the percentage of people in this country are hyper organized, very organized, moderately organized and those who prefer not being organized at all. Because of the great expense of a WDW vacation, I would estimate the vast majority of visitors are very to hyper organized, the bands being right up their alley.

And yes, I am being judgemental. :)

By that theory, yes. Disneyland is set up just like Universal essentially. Obviously has more rides for her 6 year old so their perception could be different.

Only bad I've ever heard of Disneyland is size of castle and size of resort in comparison to WDW. For most part, I find a lot more people prefer Disneyland to Magic Kingdom outright though.

I mean, how would you classify GP at DL given that it is a park mostly made up of locals?

Maybe in people's mind, but it really means "your personal information has been sold to a 3rd party company".
Your kidding yourself if you think facebook, twitter, google or your cellphone provider aren't doing the same thing.

Magic Bands make guests walking Disney advertisements on top of it all.
