Interesting conversation, since before Universal scheduled DC to be torn down, just about everyone on the various IU threads trashed Dragons as a ride, especially since they haven't dueled for a long long time. Once it was announced they were going bye bye, people fell in love with the coasters again....Kind of like a hot girlfriend from twenty years ago that's now fat & slovenly with warts on her nose, but the memories recalled her when she was slim & beautiful.......DC's time had come.

The fact that Hulk and DC were built at the same time and Hulk had to be replaced because the track was literally cracking up should be a big hint at why DC is now leaving.

Just sayin'.

Dragons has always been 2 fantastic coasters that take up a lot of space. Anyone who trashed those coasters as being bad has a screw loose.

And now they saw fit to make something on the level of the rest of Harry Potter and trash Dragons. I wonder why that is? Could it be that it just didn't cut it anymore? Or that it never cut it but they couldn't do anything about it at first? No, because then that would mean you would be wrong and can't have that can we.

Universal is finally correcting some of their biggest flaws. I thought people here would love that since you all love oh so much to compare them to Disney. Well guess what? Disney for the most part doesn't clutter their parks with intrusive big steel coasters.

I wonder why I've been a Universal AP for almost 20 years and haven't been to Disney in a while. Certainly it isn't because I prefer Universal to Disney.

And thanks Disneyhead and everyone for answering the question. I suppose it is a bit better knowing the decision was a technical nessesity rather than a solely creative choice.

I'm not wrong, or right it's just my opinion. Your opinion isn't wrong or right either. I just happen to disagree that it wasn't a "theme park quality" ride. I really do hope all your dreams come true.

As someone who visited IOA before all this Potter nonsense, I'm still pretty disappointed it lost one of it's original rides. That's my opinion.

I'll drop it, but maybe lay back on all the "burn it down and dance around it" rhetoric. It's still a fresh wound for a lot of us old school UOR fans.

If it was Disney, they'd already have turned it into an 8 acre Hermoine meet and greet. Uni isn't really for the 5 and under crowd. Roller coasters appeal to that teen(part of families with older kids) and young adult demo that Uni markets to. If you think that's one of their flaws, you really don't get Universal.

Can we make a different thread for this debating about Dragon Challenge's quality and if steel coasters belong in theme parks or not? This thread is about the upcoming Harry Potter coaster experience, not about if DD/DC was fitting in the park or not. It's getting ridiculous.

I’m just really wanting this to be the immersive coaster they implied. Limited screens with slow moving portions through built environments with centaur AAs, Gwarp, Unicorn, and other creatures. Once past each scene a launch sequence to another.

With all the extra things going on, the coaster section is going to have to be severely limited in length so multiple coaster sections is the only way to go.

I just hope it's not too much of a "stop, watch a scene, than go" thing like Gringotts. I would hope the dark ride sections are like Mummy, where you're actively moving past them until some sort of launch. It'd be really cool if they used some sort of "walking" animatronic affect to make it look like Firenze is walking beside us, warning of the road ahead.

The ideal ride would be to have a length coaster dark ride combo with a total time of 6 minutes.

And we're still getting a coaster. Just a more fitting one. That was the flaw I was talking about.

The comparison to Disney was in the way they build immersive environments.

Same. I will miss Dueling Dragons. Yes, I used that name on purpose.

I nearly snorted out some soda. I was thinking this same thing that it would have been a big meet-n-greet (or meet-n-grope as some call it). I am excited to hear more about this ride.

Yeah if Gringotts was longer it would be the best ride in Orlando.

'Gringotts needs way more thrill for me. After the intital drop, its just kind of blah. FJ IMHO is the best ride I have been on with Spidey a close second. I immersion of sets and seemless transition in FJ is unmatchable.

What @scott_walker said. Universal pushes a lot of trains all day everyday. Busch Gardens pushes trains out kind of regularly. SeaWorld get trains out of the station when they get around to it.

Well can Universal hurry up and push Rip Ride Rockit harder? I'd love to see that piece of crap in a heaping pile of rubble. Least favorite Coaster at UOR.
