Paramount(Viacom) and Sony will be difficult to acquire, but plausible.
Lionsgate and MGM seem easier to acquire.

It's possible that the future of the entertainment industry is just Universal/Disney/Warner/Netflix.

What? No. He said Disney is going ahead with their streaming service and will use Hulu as the adult and M rated content dumping ground.

Keyword for premier. Who buys the streaming services? Adults. Which shows will they want to want? Adult and M rated content usually. What are the biggest shows viewership wise. The FX shows not going on Disney's streaming service.

Iger said that the deal would give Hulu, which it will now own 60% of alongside Comcast’s NBCUniversal unit and Time Warner, a “great opportunity” to expand and compete with the likes of Netflix and Amazon.

“Owning a third of [Hulu] was great but having control will allow us to greatly accelerate Hulu into that space and become an even greater competitor to those already out there. We’ll be able to do that not only by putting more content in Hulu’s direction but by essentially having control to the extent that managing Hulu becomes a little bit more clear, efficient and effective,” he said.

Asked about content spending plans at Hulu, which is in an arms race with streaming rivals Netflix and Amazon, he said it would be “premature to speculate” ahead of the deal close but said it had “some time to consider that”.

“We do know that if we decide to increase our original spending on Hulu, we certainly have the intellectual property-creating possibilities far more than we did before this acquisition,” he added.

Iger reiterated that direct-to-consumer plays are a priority for the enlarged studio as seen by the announcement of Disney and ESPN branded streaming services. “One of the most exciting aspects of the acquisition is that it will allow us to greatly accelerate our direct to consumer strategy, enabling us to better serve consumers around the world. We believe creating a direct to consumer relationship is vital to the future of our media businesses and is our priority.”

I think Deadpool and everything R-Rated will be fine, Disney just won't put their name on it.

The next 4 movies should be unchanged: Deadpool 2, New Mutants, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and Gambit

After those, they'll probably reboot and bring X-Men into MCU.

Nothing for a long time.

You’ve stated you don’t want to debate the Marvel contract despite bringing it up, so I’ll just leave it at you’re over reacting.

1) Contract probably has cancellation penalties.
2) Final approval will be in 2019, they have 18 months or so to renew the multi year contract.
3) ok? They have it into perpetuity and both companies have stated they don’t see it changing.

Another hidden benefit for Comcast based on Iger's statements, its seems Hulu will be the premier Disney streaming service. Even with 30% ownership, thats a lot of profits for little work especially since Hulu currently only operates in Japan and the United States.

Sky and Star are nice but I don't Disney fully thought out the effects of Brexit and its effect on Sky operations within Europe being diminished. And India is not a upcoming major market anytime soon.

Nobody's seen the Hulu formation agreement, but each partner has to agree to major changes (Disney, Fox, and Comcast) according to one of the major media analysts:

This guy has always been a Disney bear though (really a legacy media bear is a better description).

Comcast will regain its management say this year (before the Fox sale to Disney completes), so I would expect them to have a strong say in any kinds of major changes Disney would want to make. And if it gets messy, Comcast might be able to force a sale by frustrating Disney. We just have to wait and see. Comcast will make its moves eventually, and it's in the best position to capitalize if assets need to be spun off or sold or other major studios or production companies decide to sell.

What if Disney sells Hulu once their own streaming service is up? Then, Disney/Fox removes all their stuff from from Hulu?

Comcast would pay them off in a heartbeat and take over Hulu and then probably consider working with Sony Pictures or MGM or others to put their television content there.

Hulu is a valuable asset; I was just pointing out that even with a minority stake, Comcast will have significant say since the original Hulu contract was made to protect each owner's minority interest.

I see Comcast as a long-term winner regardless of this Disney-Fox agreement. Comcast will be a buyer of other media properties.

Yep, they would use their home distribution partnerships with all these other companies and put all their libraries that they are allowed to distribute on Hulu.

Disney and Fox don't produce the most popular stuff on Hulu. If you look at the originals for example, Handmaid's Tale is from MGM and Harlots is from ITV.

A Hulu with NBC's tv properties + ITV + MGM and maybe inviting Sony to bring all its television properties (since it has no network distribution despite a large tv studio) on board would be pretty formidable.

Heck, it's really not all that farfetched to see ITV, MGM, and Sony Pictures as possible Comcast acquisitions if Disney really does sell Hulu.

All I know is, I'm about to start earning a whole heck of a lot more Disney Movie Rewards starting soon.

When they bought Marvel and Lucasfilm my rewards just about doubled!

Out of anything, I would think that it'd make no sense to pull out of that, and that it'll be finished before the acquisition is approved.

Hulu’s Future: What Disney-Fox Deal Means for TV-Streaming Venture – Variety

Great article analyzing the Hulu issues in the future:
"The wrinkle here for Disney is that, under the terms of the JV agreement for Hulu, it won’t be able to make any major structural changes to Hulu without the agreement of Comcast/NBCU. For the last six years, the Peacock’s hands have been tied with respect to voting decisions about Hulu, under the consent decree Comcast agreed to with the U.S. government related to its NBCU takeover. Those restrictions expire in September 2018 — setting up a potential battle between Disney and Comcast/NBCU over Hulu’s future."

That's the most promising element of this deal, surely!

Comcast has an aspect that Disney can't forget about....especially since Net Neutrality just got repealed, Comcast is legally allowed to throttle Disney streaming service speeds if they try to kill Hulu.
