My favorite parts of the ride as of now is the orchestrated rendition of Mario Kart 8's course intro, the abuse to Toad, Bowser yelling at Mario and the Universal jingle at the end.

You sit in some sort of box with glass infront of you, so it may be a mix? I don’t know.

ETA:

A friend from another board just filled me in! Thanks D.

He said: “Web Slingers is going to use 3D glasses but the window on the ride vehicle is going to be used for augmented reality.

So, 3D AR. Also, it will likely be used for webbing as well as displaying the Spiderbots.”

From the article:

“Riders will wear 3-D glasses, traveling through an environment created using a mix of practical set pieces, virtual backdrops and augmented reality. To make the web-shooting illusion work, a new gesture recognition system tracks the position of a rider’s hands, arms, wrists, elbows, head and eyes to calculate where they aim.”

We got a first look at the new Avengers Campus under construction at the Disneyland Resort in California. Like every Marvel film, get ready for "a million Easter eggs."

So I am interested to ride both and see how they work! Exciting times.

If Toad didn't get smashed with something or thrown across a screen at least once then the whole land would have been a waste of time

I'm coming from a different angle than most of the posters on this thread who are big time Nintendo & Mario fans. I have no prior interest in Nintendo or Mario. I couldn't care less about video games.
But I am a theme park enthusiast. Bottom line, to me, from what I've seen so far, it looks like Universal knocked this out of the box. The land looks fabulous. Yoshi is fine as a Seuss Trolley type
kids/family ride (and like Suess Trolley it's probably twice as good in the night). Mario looks fine even without AR goggles, and it appears to be an excellent experience with AR.
I think the general public will love this land. It's going to be Fun, Fun, Fun on steroids. And that's what's most important.

Just watched the AR POV. This ride is not meant to be ridden in the back row at all. It also looks janky.

Okay so I didn’t wanna be hyperbolic earlier but since others have stated close to or something near it.....

Haven’t experience this or SWGE, so I take that into account, but this feels like the GOAT land to me. At least of the major, single IP realms. It’s just ridiculous.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I'll definitely look at anyone crooked who says swge beats this hands down! Rise may be better than MK but as a land, yeah no... and I haven't ridden either fyi.

I think most of what you see is due to the nearly impossible task of filming this ride *through* AR glasses

SWGE is definitely a whole lot more cohesive.

Characters appearing over the headrest in front of you and appearing to come out of nowhere from the sides of the glasses is because of the filming?

I get the first one might be tough but for the second why not make the AR headset like a pair of goggles to cut off peripheral vision and remove the problem?

I really want to see Yoshi at night.

The ride looks even better now than the first leaked video so would like to see how it works at night.

Watched the interactive games and raid...I doubt i would do them everytime i go but looks better than i thought they would and so not upset they are coming to USH....wish we got Yoshi still but the other stuff is for sure better than another store or restaurant.
I also like the bands interactive with so much, while i know they are different GE to me is very cool but wish you could interact with more. But both lands do different things better but glad both seem to turned out well.

I've seen the big warehouse-like queue line and I'd naturally assume that they'd be playing ambient noise. But I would imagine after at least 30 minutes, the loud music in there would feel like torture ESPECIALLY if it's the same track over and over again. The rest of the queue looks incredible though.

The sets in the ride too look very detailed, Piranha Plant Slide and Twisted Mansion were the highlights for me.

The AR meshes in very well with the sets although the full POV video makes it look very rough, this is something that you'd actually HAVE to ride in order for you to fully judge it.

I think Universal has made a winner!

Do we actually know how it was filmed? I was just assuming that it was through some camera glasses hence the camera was attached to the glasses frame and not only are you getting only one side of the footage but it's filmed to the side of where your eye would be looking at it.

I always had expectations that it wouldn't look brilliant on a POV but I've actually been surprised on how good it looks and I'm definitely looking at a trip to Japan once we get back to normality!

The person was holding their phone and the AR goggles, I think they said. They were talking on twitter that it’s just not possible to film in a way that gives a real clear picture on the AR

Okay so I've watched both videos a few more times.

If you haven't, I suggest watching the "NO AR" version of the POV as well. It really gives you a chance to see just HOW GREAT the physical sets are. After sleeping on it and watching a few more times, I'm definitely more impressed by it.

Still a LITTLE disappointed, but nowhere near what I was after watching it the first time.

My favorite parts are:
Twisted Mansion, Piranha Plant Slide, Cloudtop Cruise

Like others have said though, there is absolutely zero question in my mind that this will be the GOAT theme park land for me. Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley are outstanding in every aspect. Pandora is beautiful and has great attractions but feels a little bare. Galaxy's Edge has awesome attractions and great details but just feels a little... off?

SNW looks absolutely perfect in every way though. I can't wait to ride Yoshi's Adventure and take in the entire land from above. Remember when Disney flailed like a madman after Hogsmeade opened? I think that's going to happen again.

Just my two cents here based on this board and the POVs.

Yes - I wish the ride was faster...like a lot faster.

No - I’m not going to pass complete judgment on it as I’ve done this countless times in the past based on POVs and was wrong.

I think people are upset because MK should be about racing and not just a shooter ride (even though it’s a component). I understand the frustration - but what I think what is rubbing people the wrong way is that if you remove Dr. Seuss Land and E.T./Kidzone from the parks, almost every other “children’s” ride has some speed or intensity to it (Shrek, Despicable Me, Dudley Do-Right, Popeyes, etc). So naturally - based on the IP and the history of the UC, we were expecting something with a little more *umph* for a family ride.

But setting aside that it’s MK - looking at the rest of EU, you can pretty much guarantee that this is the “kids section” and quite frankly, the mandatory tame area of the park (and that’s still discounting what the DK could be in motion). Even the HTTYD land will have some more excitement thanks to a potential flying attraction.

That being said - unlike other parks where they typically inherit an IP that drives kids to it and makes parents shrug - UC were geniuses picking something up that will attract people of all ages, regardless of what the rides actually are.

If this ride’s grand opening was with EU - and we we’re seeing this POV next to Monsters, HTTYD and Potter, I think we would be half as harsh.

Id wait for more first hand reports than judging this on the POV vid.

So far the few people I’ve spoken to were really impressed... (even those that didn’t really like the ride admitted it’s one of Universal’s best to date, just not their cup of tea.)

Also, as is to be expected, it’s a ride that people seem to enjoy more after a few times, after they get better at playing along and know what to expect. It can be overwhelming at first and to get your bearings.

Still not too many people talking about their experience though. I expect a lot more to speak up after the land officially grand opens.

I think the elements I specifically picked wouldn’t change much in person.

Something like the fact they all look like ghosts obviously WOULD change when viewing with our own eyes so I didn’t really bring that up as a criticism.
