So no one's opinion of this ride is valid because no one has ridden it basically.

Essentially.

The video doesn't capture AR well AT ALL, but it also doesn't capture any of the effects to simulate the speed (wind, sound, motion).

Aside from that, I think people are being a little too harsh because expectations were different. It's one thing to say "Oh, this is wasn't what I expected" and another to say "This isn't what I expected, so it's not good".

This is a partnership between Universal AND Nintendo; meaning this is just as much as what Nintendo wanted as their Mario Kart attraction.

Yea. Miyamoto was involved basically every step of the way.

It's hard to judge because filming with the AR just seems impossible but it looks like it's a lot of fun. I do wish it went faster but maybe it'll feel that way with the AR. Watching the non AR version all the physical stuff looks amazing! I can't wait for this to come to Orlando. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

The Hogwarts ride limits people from riding (or they feel sick after) and none of these rides will likely do that, even DK.

I wouldn't say that yet. Motion isn't the only thing that makes people get sick. Plenty of 3d rides make people sick. My wife can get queasy from a 3d movie in a theater or even fast moving camera action. We don't know how the AR stuff will translate. I suspect the near/far difference with the AR screen appearing in front of other screens will cause certain groups of people to get sick or at least feel off. But until we have a larger pool of riders talking, we don't know.

Seeing people saying on social media that now there’s no way there going to build Mario Kart in the other Universal parks.

To which I say, when has Nintendo ever not done something due to fan “outrage”, hahaha.

There was no outrage because we obviously didn’t know anything, but here’s one famous example.

They didn’t move ahead on what was already being done and made the tough choice to start all over. This was met with a mostly positive and understanding reaction btw.

I’d imagine since it’s your eyes following it that it won’t happen that way, I can’t imagine this wasn’t thought of. They’ll fly over them it seems for sure but not like bounce of their head hopefully, characters are coming from left and right haha. Part of that is the game aspect though I’m sure just gotta add more things in.

What I’m referring to is at the starting line in the AR POV. The racers are projected between the two rows killing any sense of them actually being there for the people in the back row.

Thought I might as well post some of my thoughts. Keep in mind these are only based on video footage.

I had lowered my expectations for the attractions as soon as I knew what they were. Mario Kart was never the most anticipated thing for me because, well, it’s Mario Kart. People were expecting this big epic adventure with high speed action? Have they even played Mario Kart? It’s all about the items and gameplay.

The ride looks like a lot of fun. I think Universal creative did about as well as they could for a “Mario Kart with a story”. I understand why they did this. There’s no individual attraction based on the main series games, so they tried to add as many elements from the main games as possible. It makes for a wonderful queue with fantastic music. But I can’t help but feel like they should have made a ride based on the main series. Have that be the epic ride that travels through the Mushroom Kingdom, to far off galaxies, culminating with a Giant Bowser fight. Then keep Mario Kart focused on the item gameplay.

Things aren’t helped with Yoshi. This ride has way too many ideas and it is way too short to explore any of them. Is this a Yoshi’s Island ride? Is this a New Super Mario Bros Ride? Why is Captain Toad here? Why is there a random picture of Starship Mario and Gateway Galaxy in the tunnel? This ride really doesn’t pickup it’s weight, and Mario Kart is forced to bear the insanely high expectations all by itself.

As for the land itself, bravo. This looks like the best themed land ever. It’s so alive. I don’t love 3D World, but it made a great base for creating a general Mario experience. The underground experience looks amazing. I love the Bowser Jr side story. The Piranha Plants look real! I could go on and on.

The music...it’s sooo good! Nearly all of the main games are represented in some way, and they are all remixes! Bobomb Battlefield, Slider and Peach’s Castle from Mario 64. Delfino Plaza from Sunshine. Good Egg, Gusty Garden, Ghostly, and Comet Observatory from Galaxy. Puzzle Plank from Galaxy 2. Super Bell Hill, Fuzzy Time Mine, World Bowser, and Simmering Lava Lake from 3D World. Bowser Jr.’s theme from NSMB Wii. All of the Mario Kart remixes! I can’t wait to listen to these in higher quality.

Youre trying to tie logic around a cute C-ticket for toddlers with enough pleasant scenery to keep parents entertained. It’s not meant to be a cohesive story

Puzzle Plank plays in the store. The other Galaxy songs play in the restaurant but it’s hard to hear

The ride is barely over 2 minutes and half of it has stuff that have no relation to Yoshi? Also not a fan of how you can see most of the attraction without being on it. One extra interior scene could’ve gone a long way.

Not sure you've played a Yoshi or Mario game w/Yoshi, those characters are very much a part of it.

The ride is 4 minutes long. You're riding in a Yoshi, past scenes featuring Yoshis. Another indoor scene would have been nice, sure. But there wasn't room for it. As it stands, it's a nice, relaxing ride, which is all it was ever intended to be. It will be the lands 3rd tier attraction once DK opens.

I’ve played all of them. Conkdor’s are from 3D World (Yoshi isn’t in that one). Captain Toad and Yoshi are only in one game together (Galaxy 2) and they barely interact. The Baby Yoshi’s count, I guess, but are from New Super Mario Bros U. The opening scene based on Yoshi’s Island is great, with the babies, houses, Poochy, and Kamek. Then it just becomes a general Wii U Mario ride (the era where Yoshi had a weak presence). Why couldn’t they have added more Yoshi stuff, like Baby Bowser, or Chomp Rocks, etc?

Isn’t DK it’s own land?

Mario Kart looks great, but I’m just not feeling Yoshi. It’s weak by kids ride standards. Half of the ride is just crossing an empty bridge.

How can you say the bridge is empty when the entirety of SNW is around you... thats the point of this ride. A Yoshi style people mover.

DK is connected to SNW. The only way to get to it is through what we see, and you can't get back out without going back through the land. I do not think that classifies as being its own land.

Agree to disagree about Yoshi. It's a cute ride, adds more kinetcs to the land, and is a type of ride Universal doesn't have enough of

Ehhh, Yoshi is definitely a complete mess of ideas (at least in my opinion). Its like they tried to make a mashup of Yoshi's history into one ride. And its just so jarring.

Captain Toad and Regular Toadette don't help either. I just have no idea what they were going for.

Like how I feel towards Mario Kart, I think the concept of Yoshi is kind of flawed.

I think any theme park ride is that, we did like 10 courses throughout Mario Kart, Forbidden Journey is all of Harry's adventures in 1 ride, Spiderman is a bunch of villains coming together, most rides are "greatest hits" because you simply have so much to show off but only so much room to do so.

Those are cohesive though while Yoshi is a hap-hazard mix. It should have just been a purely Yoshi's Island ride or New Super Mario Bros. Ride.

Also, again, it's a family ride where little kids can "win" the game by spotting the eggs and pressing the buttons. Trying to analyze the story decisions is going like 10 levels above what is necessary.

The Baby Yoshi’s in the ride are the ones from the Wii U 2D Mario.

As for DK, maybe mini land is more appropriate? I expect “Super Nintendo World” to become a brand name that stretches across the different Universal Parks. Similar to how Wizarding World became “Wizarding World: Hogsmeade”, I predict this will become “SNW: Mushroom Kingdom”, “SNW: DK Island”, “SNW: Hyrule”.
