There are times when irreverence is fun. This would not be one of them.

Although I’m a little apprehensive about the whole “sideshow tourist attraction with a descendant host” angle, I trust that they’ve done enough research and had adequate discussions about how to make everything work.

My take is that the story with the Monsters land and ride should be taken with the Ockham’s Razor approach: keep the story and setting as simple as possible. Don’t try to turn this ride into something it’s not. I want to see vampires chasing us. I want to see werewolves hunting us down. I want to feel like we’re apart of some mad experiment from a member of the Frankensteins. I want this to be DARK. I want to see poor children TRAUMATIZED. This is their only shot into making a big budget E-ticket ride (and LAND to top it all off!!!) that is frightening and I don’t want them to screw this up over something as stupid as a lame backstory.

Again, I trust the creative team has done their research and will treat these characters with respect as the HHN teams in both coasts have done. We have literally nothing to go on except internet rumors. I feel split about the rumors about the main ride’s story and feel like it will either work, or it will slam face-down hard in the pavement with failure. But as long as they respect the legacy of the Monsters, put some really cool effects in the ride, and most of all make it dark, gothic, and scary, I’m happy. Heck, it doesn’t even have to be terrifying every ride, which is hard for a lot of us as HHN fans. Just make it really dark.

I would’ve preferred that they would’ve gone for a steampunk-ish Gothic theme and had the main story of the Monsters E ticket be that we’re subject for Dr Frankenstein’s experiment, something “goes wrong” and all goes from there.

I agree that turning the village into a tourist attraction seems very lazy and way too Galaxy Edge like. Why can't the village just be the village from the films set in that time period?

I also don't think the nightly scarezone stuff will last that long either if they do it at all.

I can see the tourist trap angle working. DOn't think of a tourist trap as flashy and gaudy, but more as mysteria and thrilling. A place where it looks stuck in time and no one ever forgot THAT horrible thing that took place. A land where monsters do exist but rest assured, we are monster free! All tourist traps aren't like las vegas. YOu do have places like Gatlinburg and nassau bahamas. Still staying true to their origins as far as looks and things to do and that is the draw for visitors.

I think the tourist trap aspect is being over emphasized and speculated on because it’s one of the only things we “know” about the land. I have a feeling it’s going to be more of an unspoken backstory thing rather than a main visual aspect of the land. Probably also just loose framing for there to be gift shops and dining clearly themed to the monsters.

The story of the main attraction seems simple enough too when you look at the bare bones of it. An ancestor of Dr. Frankenstein has invite us to explore his old mansion and get a glance of the monsters he’s collected over the years. The monsters escape and the madness begins as we escape. Simple story with a fun reason to have all the monsters in one spot and justifiably pissed.

My point exactly. This is the problem I have with Forbidden Journey--which would've been better off just using the HMCMA storyline (go to a Care of Magical Creatures lesson instead of Quidditch match, have Draco hex us into the forest where godknowswhat lies and Harry has to rescue us; of course they would've cornered themselves for when it came time to replace Dragons).

Side note, Screamscape only mentions one animatronic with Victoria(?) Frankenstein probably in the pre-show. We can expect a couple in the main attraction right? Hoping for AT LEAST one of each monster.

@Alicia?

Yeah, thinking about it: this is probably just so that we can justify villagers being friendly and hanging around rather than running around with torches and pitchforks. I'm curious how the modern day aspect will impact things, hopefully not too much; the atmosphere in this land will be important.

Unfortunately, if there were creepy characters loitering in the darkness of Knockturn, some crazy guy trying to look macho to a girlfriend, would probably punch them out, like what happened in Kong.
And that would be the end of that, like in Kong.

Is that what happened :stun:

I will say there is a difference between "creepy" and "jump scare"

I would be more interested in creepy walkaround characters

Who even cares? Give me a Haunted Mansion on a KUKA arm and I don't even give a poop about the theme or the rest of the land.

Well, maybe also put a bar in there somewhere...

In general, Kong is, IMO, a GREAT expectation setter for Monsters.

For instance, the rumor that the land effectively turns into a scare zone at night? Would bet money against it happening, and if it happened, I’d bet even more money they discontinue it after a few years at most.

There, unfortunately, isn’t really demand for a year round “thing that outwardly scares you in a spooky environment.” USH couldn’t keep a haunted house popular, Kong’s scare actor didn’t last too long, etc.

At best, I could *maybe* see a Death Eaters in Hogsmeade level. And sure plenty of creepy, ominous lighting. But, I would be shocked to see jumpscares in a land.

They don’t have the actor in the Kong queue anymore? How long ago did that end? (Not a huge fan, don’t hit it every trip)

On the village topic, the way I see it would be similar to the NOPE portion of the studio tour at USH, specifically like the media event where they were walking through it and they had townspeople interacting with guests/tourists. If they take that approach with this village I think it'll actually work out quite nicely.

Imagine if the actors in the village reacted to sounds/activity coming from the castle every once in a while? Like this but spookier:

The rumor about the nighttime scarezeone all year seems dubious but something could be done during HHN season. Halloween is often associated with spirits and monsters coming to life/coming from the other side/other mystical shenanigans anyway, so having something extra occur during that time of the year in the land would be awesome.

That said, it's far too early but I'm also excited to see what kind of holiday overlays the park will get during the winter.

Could be a test to have a nighttime scare zone to see how it does then they can implement this idea in the Monsters land at Epic Universe

Some issues before COVID shut downs. So it lasted around 3 1/2 years.
