No inside info either but I could see them making the decision to extend Monsters Inc.’s life so they could punt the decision a bit longer.

I would imagine if Avatar 3 ends up being the last installment in the franchise, it would give Disney pause to start working on a land that would take 3ish years to turnaround.

You have to remember that even though Avatar land at Animal Kingdom came almost smack dab in the middle of the 13 years in between movies, it wasn’t Disney’s IP. So the success of the movie and the theme park land weren’t intrinsically tied together as it is now.

All this to say I think the decision on Avatar 4 and Avatar Land will come in tandem.

The fact they filed permits this week pertaining to Monster's demolition though shows they aren't really punting the decision. There is a near zero chance they start the process to move forward without concrete plans in place for the location, and the current known timeline of events simply doesn't lend itself to a completely different land to have been designed for the space, even if it is a version of Zootopia from Shanghai.

And the Avatar 4 & 5 talk is rehashed. We already knew they were looking at ways to reduce the budget. We've known it since Cameron himself started talking about it during the Fire and Ash press tour kickoff last November. The Wrap's source is a vague 'insider' who is giving no new information that hasn't been shared by Cameron himself for the last 6 months. Hell, I could have called up the writer and given him the exact same information and I am for sure no insider . So it's baffling that it's being spun the way it is, especially after only a week and a half ago Avatar's producer Rae Sanchini confirmed work was "full speed ahead" on the next films and they were already developing computer tech to help speed up production and cut costs overall.

I’ve since exited my sudden, borderline supernatural daily-rewatches-of-all-three-movies Avatar obsession of December 25’, but this is literally the only thing I’ve been excited for from Disney Parks in years. Every time I think I can’t hate them more, they find a way
