I can't blame Universal for cashing in, but I admit I liked September 1 better when it was strictly a fan-created thing (aided by some very kind and patient TMs).

Never been (or been interested TBH) but is this just special merch (backpack and journal bundle) and some themed food for sale?

Not an official show but, in years past, virtually the entire 11:00 a.m. train from Diagon to Hogsmeade would be guests in Hogwarts uniforms. Ops would allow them to stand off to the side starting at say 10:30ish, and then board right at 11, as students do in the book. The conductors tended to play it up, too, "welcome to your first day" type comments. I saw several younger kids' faces just light up.

This has been going on since the train opened, the food and merch is new this year, so who knows if something else added.
