I don't know, the formula for the show usually served up one fantasy subplot per episode that proved to be a monkey's paw wish--albeit within the limits of 70s network TV. As a kid there were a couple episodes that scared the hell out of me. I think an adult take on that is novel and refreshing.

Going on memory here from a couple reruns I caught, but I think it was implied at one point that Mr. Rourke was a reformed demon--Malcolm or Roddy McDowall played his ex-boss, the devil (basically as Hugh Hefner, because the 70s). So Rourke was basically using his skill set to scare sinners straight. Again, there's some interesting territory to cover here.
