I'm just gonna say I think this is a "You" thing, not a problem with Pixar.

They don't win awards, makes as much money and are talked about less

Pixar had an era from Toy Story until Toy Story 3 where besides Cars and Bugs Life, every film was gold (and even Cars made an insane amount of money)

Yea, and that is an *insanely unlikely* thing to keep going indefinitely.

As for win awards, they won best animated picture in 2020! Money wise, the last thing they released pre-pandemic made a billion dollars! And then Disney trained everyone to think that their stuff was just D+ fodder. Elemental is holding up exceptionally well at the box office because it is *very* good, and people are responding to that. Yes, it started off slow, but, again, that's because Disney devalued the brand by releasing things to D+

Never confuse boxoffice with quality. If we did, the best film of 1955 would not be "Oklahoma!' but "Cinerama Holiday"

Sure but it does help, my point is Pixar had an age where 9/10 films were loved and also made money.

The MCU is now losing money, overall the company needs a CEO like Walt who can push people to be the best creatives they can be not Iger who.....literally just bought IPs and let Star Wars kinda lose what made it special and got very lucky with the MCU because phase 4/5 prove that it was not guaranteed to work

If there was an easy formula to follow guaranteeing financial success, all the Studios would be doing it. But the reality is, there's no magic formula, and through the long history of films, most movies lose money at the theatrical end.

Yeah, TS4 was REALLY good. Turning Red was also extremely well done. Onward was a really good and VERY Pixar (in how it brought out emotion where you least expected it) story of two brother going on an adventure to find their father. Luca was a bit of a let down though.

Soul was also very good as was Elemental, which is doing extremely well at the box office for a movie that only opened at $29M (it's at $128M and counting - holding very well, suggesting great word of mouth). Had Disney not opened it only two weeks after Spiderverse and the same weekend as The Flash (and also given it literally almost no promotion), maybe this film could've been a much bigger hit for them.

No doubt which is why you pay a CEO millions to fix these issues.

To his credit, Iger has "fixed" a lot of the issues that Chapek created on the studio side (by giving power back to the creatives instead of incorporating a middle man). It will take a few years to start to see if that is something that pays off or not.

I think they royally screwed up Marvel which is a problem, and adding Pixar films to D+ did dillute the brand regardless of what anyone thinks of quality. Fact of the matter is, if you’re going to ever allow these to be shown at home, it’s waaayyy easier and cheaper for a family of 4 to have a movie night at home then go out. Plain and simple. Kids also don’t care about spoilers, so it’s not like you have to rush to see Luca or Turning Red if you’re worried about plot spoilers.

I rarely go to the movies anymore since the pandemic because my habits have changed. It’s going to be hard for the studios to change that unless the quality drastically goes up on theatrical releases.

Apple's tech expertise could be implemented in really cool ways into Disney park attractions particularly in regards to things like the hardware of attractions like the ride vehicles and on interactivity for attractions like Midway Mania and Web Slingers (think the underlying tech that powers that Vision Pro headset being implemented into a glasses free VR form) They could also have improved Magic bands with Apple tech in them which would basically be a plussed version of the SNW bands.

Ya I don’t get the argument Apple wouldn’t help the parks. I absolutely do not want Apple to buy Disney… no way. I do think at least at first Apple would invest heavily EVERYWHERE in Disney and see what sticks. So parks would get some bump.

I do not want this though.

I kind of wary of this, because anytime Disney has put the tech cart before the make a good ride horse, it's always caused problems.

Agreed. However in this scenario Apple runs these rides, and while they have faults, Apple is outstandingly reliable imo.

I put absolutely no stock in Apple buying Disney, personally. From their content pipeline something like A24 would make more sense. Disney is too large of an org, they’d have to spin off ABC and most of the Fox assets just because I don’t see them wanting to get into cable.

If Iger wanted to pick either of them I’d actually support it. I thought both would’ve made pretty good CEOs. Staggs has CEO experience elsewhere since leaving Disney, too.

Can’t possibly be worse than Chapek and second term Iger isn’t much better so far, but things feel more stable at the very least. With Chapek it was one blunder after another.
