I love see all the stats and how Sony loses money (also Sony can complain about getting charged extra...as they also charge devs to put games on the consoles and take a cut for doing...almost nothing)
But here is the Rub, is God Of war digital going to be 10-20% cheaper to buy when they don't have to pay for disc and retailers? If its not then I really don't care for those excuses because unless its passes onto the consumers, its just a company and CEOs making more

But also Per the chat their are a bunch of games near a 50% split....so people are still buying games physical

This is also why it would be nice to have a real government who passes basic laws because we should be able to own digital games as well, we should be able to have a system where we can at the very least own it forever and even be able to let friends borrow these copies for a limited time

Random thought, if Xbox follows PlayStation on physical games do you think we see any major retailers cut ties and refuse to stock the PS6 or Helix? Over the years I’ve seen it brought up a few times that retailers make close to nothing just selling a console.

I think that these major big box retailers will most likely have a PlayStation and Xbox presence for a while through consoles, accessories, and eventually those paper slips that will replace physical games. I don't think Sony or Microsoft will allow Nintendo to be the only major video game option in stores like that.

You’re correct the way you present it, but I’m speaking more along the lines of any retailer just not caring what Sony or Microsoft want to “allow” or not. They’ll look at their numbers and decide it’s just not feasible to carry them, especially if they’re $1,500+.

I suppose it could happen, especially if the price tag is that high.

After the latest price increase of Xbox Asha gave the grim prediction that the costs of making hardware could double again by holiday next year. These consoles are cooked.

For what it's worth, I haven't seen the type of backlash PlayStation/Sony is getting since the infamous XBox One debacle when that thing first got revealed, so much so that non-gaming brand socials have been getting in on it, such as here:

And it seems they're definitely feeling it from people trying to cancel their PlayStation subscriptions and having this come up. I know there's the current issue of AI driving up memory costs and all that, but if Microsoft folded to backlash when they did something similar once, it's worth keeping up the pressure with Sony.

As I previously said in another thread, physical and digital should continue to coexist like they always have. I know digital has its convenience, but even aside from the stronger sense of ownership with a physical game, ultimately saving more on your system's storage space really goes a long way and remains as a very big factor in why I always opt for physical when I can help it (and why I do not plan to buy a single Game Key Card on Switch 2 with very few exceptions like FF7R). Plus, having something physically tied to the game you bought is something that digital just can't replicate.
