I'd actually argue it was when he brought Pixar back under the umbrella and locked them up - but agreed on other points.

That's the thing. There's no Pixar to bring in. There's no Marvel or Star Wars to buy. Where do they go next?

Really interesting challenges for whoever is next

I don't think they need to "buy" anything else for a while. Focus on the brands you have. Especially those Theme parks...

Again, as a consumer, yes, I agree. Wall Street-wise those brands have peaked, which is why going forward is an interesting situation for Dis

They buy Nintendo! And then we have the "Marvel rights-esq" topic for people to debate and misinterpret for years to come!

... That was sarcasm btw.

I think I would literally be sick if Nintendo was bought by Disney.

TBH, i'm not sure i'd be surprised if they did buy something video games based. Maybe a studio or something. Video Games is their one area of extreme weakness.

I think the Wall Street answer is divestitures. Spin off the less profitable or less valuable divisions to get your cost to profit ratio down. I could see ESPN being spun off or sold at some point in the next decade. Their share of A+E Networks could be sold. They could sell The Disney Store again and lease it back or license it. (Although, I personally think that's a terrible idea. I worked for the company when Hoop ran it, and it was bad.) They also own ABC affiliates that could be sold off. They own some percentages of several Discovery Networks channels that they could divest.

I would've suggested merging or closing film distribution, but I just looked it up and they already did that between 2011 and 2014.

Yeah, but it will never be something as big as Nintendo. For all their problems in recent years, Nintendo is still turning a profit, which is more then you can say for Sony's PlayStation division and Microsofts X-Box, which have struggled to to keep things in the black despite far more impressive sales in home consoles.

Disney could also go the Comcast route in reverse and buy a cable company. I hear Time Warner is available.

Disney should buy Comcast. Just for the theme park board meltdowns.

Basically impossible. Comcast would have a much easier time buying Disney

Yes, I often dream about Comcast buying Disney and investing heavily in the parks.

Disney and video games don't go together well outside of Disney Infinity. Any studios they've bought or started folded pretty quickly. Nintendo is a public company mostly owned and run by a single family, I doubt they'd ever sell.

I think it's more likely for a service producer looking for content to buy Disney, like TWC or Comcast, than the other way around.

Just imagine Comcast buying Disney, "we know you wanted marvel in the Disney parks! Well we're still keeping it only at IOA."

The videogame business is not the healthiest of markets at the moment. AAA game development costs have made it very difficult to make a profit. Especially when Mobile/Free to Play games are extremely cheap to develop and make boatloads of cash. Consoles aren't quite selling as well as they used to as well.

PS4 is on pace to be the best selling console of all time, and Xbox One is on pace to outsell PS3 and Xbox 360. So this is not true in the slightest.

If you look at singular figures this may be true, but if you look at the overall console business, I don't believe it is. I could be wrong though.

If consoles are still selling well, the cost of making AAA games is still a very risky proposition these days. It's why the industry has become dominated with annual sequels and remakes. More and more reliance on paid DLC to help fund the game further.

If only there were other games besides massive "AAA" games from American publishers! Only if!
