No matter who your provider is, you will lose local broadcasting stations once every few years while they work out the rights to air them. There is big money involved for broadcast television in these negotiations, so they play hardball.
Cable rights are different, but I suppose AMC thinks it is worth considerably more than it was, say 5 years ago, with Mad Men, Walking Dead, etc.
