Watched it Saturday night, after mostly avoiding "spoilers" online.

It's ... fine? The Moana and Coco floats are stand-outs. Also pleasantly surprised by the return of "Baroque Hoedown" at the end. Didn't really love the "coming attractions"-like video on the Encanto and Frozen floats, felt like belonged in a lesser park in contrast with the beautiful lights on the other units. Complaints about it being short are grounded -- wife and I agreed it felt about two floats too short. Seemed like fewer foot units than a typical parade, but 10 deep it's hard to notice. Floats tall enough that even the little kids 10 people back were enjoying it, which is a plus.

That said, MSUSA/Hub were announced as "closed" at 8:45. Buy 9:55, the entire route was announced as "closed" (I saw no attempt to actually enforce this in Frontierland). Parade arrived at Diamond Horseshoe around 9:20, we made out way out immediately after, stopping off in Emporium. By 9:50, MSUSA was as dead as I can remember it for fireworks. Plenty of viewing space left. And the monorail line didn't even stretch down the ramp. All I can figure is every single guest in that park watched the parade, and the majority of them hightailed it out of there after as soon as they could. I'm not sure this is the magic bullet that's going to save WDW's obviously soft numbers lately.

Interesting corporate politics observation: the 1960s - 1980s are completely ignored. And the Eisner Renaissance is played down (B&tB and Aladdin are relegated to cameos, no Mermaid, Lion King, Tarzan...).

Yes. MK's Touring Plan crowd numbers remained weak all week, regardless of the parade. So, it doesn't appear the daytime guest numbers are helped. But MK is probably getting some park hoppers stopping by late to watch the parade, and swell the crowd.

Apparently the attendance bubble from the parade opening only lasted about a week from what I'm hearing.

I just checked to see the verbiage of the park reservation rules they changed for this. Not a big deal. You just basically always need a park res for Magic Kingdom but you can still enter after park hopping from another park after 2pm.

Honestly, they change the rules so much... just make the stupid park res.

I'm going to wait a few weeks before determining the success of this parade in drawing crowds. For starters, they are heavily discouraging APs to visit MK and everybody knows how much of a pain it is to visit MK.

I unfortunately don't think we will get a gauge into how successful the parade is in increasing attendance until early next year. July is the weakest month out of the year, and we're a few weeks away from party nights that artificially increases attendance on non-party nights.

If the parade had come out earlier in the summer like it was planned to originally, it might be another story.

Edit: As of today, Disney has ended the AP reservation requirement for MK

I have heard it's finishing effects, but: I could be hearing wrong.

Was it announced that the effect was going to take place that night or did people “in-the-know” just knew to be there? Seems like a lot of folks were prepared to capture that moment.

It was always meant to be part of the parade, but held back due to various reasons. Glad they finally got it working and in the parade, helps that float big time.

Disney is a master at media relations, I'm sure they gave a few vloggers in the Orlando area a heads up.

The cynic in me was slightly irritated watching the video and hearing adults screaming in joy and basically crying at Wendy and Peter "flying". They are on a tether that can be seen. Admittedly, I do enjoy seeing Tink take the zipline down, mainly because it is a cool effect and kids do have a "wow" moment. However, I don't fall to my knees and sob in joy.

I watched Resort TV 1’s stream the other night of it and if I just had audio of the crowd, I’d have assumed I was at a My Chemical Romance concert and it’s the beginning of Welcome To The Black Parade.
