Disneyland Planning on a Fourth Resort Hotel (Update: Cancelled)

The AAA ratings aren't subjective ratings. They're just a list of very clear things you need to do. Have room service, have sheets with x thread count, spend x dollars per room, have a restaurant with median dish price of x dollars, etc. If you check every box, you get the rating. It means that every single resort that's planned as a 4 Diamond will become a 4 diamond.

AAA's criteria is weak and vague. A Disney hotel with a pool with an empty bin where the towels should be gets the same rating as a hotel with a pool concierge and valet where they escort you to the chaise of your choice and wrap it in 3 towels and a 4th to dry yourself, and 2 different pitchers of complimentary citrus (Lemon/lime, Orange/Tangerine) ice water.

I know what a 4 star hotel is and Disney only has one domestic hotel that even comes close. And The Grand Californian isn't quite there.

It's pretty idiotic. I always felt like the AAA ratings were just meant to give a lower-bound for people to choose hotels. "I expect something better than a Holiday Inn, so as long as I get a 3-Diamond, I'll be safe."

I wouldn't be surprised if down the line they demolish the DL Hotel for an expansion on this hotel. Obviously Paradise Pier Hotel needs to go first for something... better, but imagine a back section of the DLR that looks like this down the line:

Why? It's not like what is there is anything close to the original DL Hotel. Hell, this 4th hotel is going on former DLH grounds when it used to have a campground.

As another note, it seems like the hotel is being designed by a huge Vegas-based company called Marnell.

Marnell, has actually been responsible for quite a few Vegas projects; such as the Bellagio, Caesars, Mirage, The Beatles Love Cirque Theater, and quite a lot more.

Anaheim has really been giving DLR a crap ton of problems and I don't quite understand it.

The only reason anyone cares about Anaheim or goes there is because of Disneyland. I'm not normally pro-corporate on a lot of things, but what the City of Anaheim has been doing is almost disrespectful considering Disneyland brings in the money for the city.

The only reason anyone cares about Anaheim or goes there is because of Disneyland. I'm not normally pro-corporate on a lot of things, but what the City of Anaheim has been doing is almost disrespectful considering Disneyland brings in the money for the city.

In a strange way, my mind is thinking; if they had the power back when it was announced "Y'know..what if we blocked Star Wars from getting a large presence?".

Honestly, I am not shocked that this is happening, and I'm actually more curious to see what Disney does here. Because this isn't exactly a situation to where they can easily reopen everything if they can't do anything on the DTD plot (or I think). Poses a lot of..interesting questions to the future of DTDW, that's for sure.

EDIT: Thinking it over, and yeah; it puts that entire section of DTDW into a state of limbo.

The AMC is right now moving into the Anaheim GardenWalk Star Cinemas location, the future of the monorail station as it is now is uncertain; their food and dining options are screwed over there..and that they have possibly lost that parking garage that was going to be built to the south of the new hotel campus (not referring to the M&F expansion)..

If they are forced to move away from Downtown Disney; then that makes me very concerned of the future of that area as it stands now. Especially from that old gas station issue that would possibly need to be addressed in the endgame.

I get showing a company that they don't own a city and all of that.

But why give Disney the $267M in the first place in 2016? Just so that they could take it away? Because if that was a plan all along, the Anaheim city council is no better than Disney. Anaheim didn't have to give Disney money for another four-star hotel, but they did. Ripping that away just weeks after Disney has closed it's doors on shops, restaurants and entertainment venues in preparation for the hotel is pretty shady and it's them strong-arming Disney.

Nobody comes out of this looking good.

I think the 297 Million came from Anaheim I think requesting for 4 hotels for the city (not just Disney). I might be wrong, but that's where I think the topic of Disney expanding with a new hotel really came into form.

I certainly am in agreement here.

I think it would be smart for Disneyland to have that land in case they ever do want to build a third park seeing as DCA is more land-locked than DL is. However, Disney obviously doesn't see it as necessary to have the land (yet) as they've had plenty of opportunities to buy it and have passed.
