There’s a reason the highest-tier Magic Key holders buy those tickets: they get this wonderful gift to reward their loyalty:

First the rooms look great and I will never have enough money to own them

Second kinda off topic....would anyone else be down to kinda make Twitter links banned? Bluesky has Scott and most the insiders for this industry and after Tuesday....really rather not give X any more views.

Not thrilled they are doubling down on the Pixar theme of the Pixar Place Hotel as that suggests Pixar Pier is here to stay.

As for the Incredibles room, looks like the architect behind the newly announced Hilton at Universal Studios was involved, haha.

I'm not convinced Coco is going behind Pixar Pier (and thereby bolstering Pixar Pier as a "permanent" pan-Pixar land). I'm rooting for Pixar Pier to be entirely replaced. And I'm hoping the Pixar Place hotel becomes thematically/aesthetically integrated into whatever happens in the Simba lot given it will be looming overhead. Whether that's as a base on Pandora or Wakanda or the Zootopia skyline.

As for why I think Coco could go to Hollywood Backlot...I'm looking at how Disney is approaching some of the projects at WDW where they are contorting their projects to re-skin and re-use fairly low-value existing buildings like shops and restaurants (Monstropolis, Tropical Americas) as if every dollar counts. If that frugal mandate guided Avatar and Coco placement at DCA, they'd be reluctant to demolish essentially all the structures seen in this image to put Avatar here. So, I think Coco could end up here, reskinning some of these buildings just like they're doing in WDW.

yeah, but there also seems to be skepticism developing about that location because of its size. who knows. disney has to break ground on all this stuff for me to be fully convinced it's happening, so i don't have a take on where anything is going.

Personally, I think Coco will go in Pixar Pier. The land desperately needs it more, and Hollywoodland is prime real estate for either more Avengers.

Wow… on one hand I don’t think the site president changes too much, but on the other hand Thomas is definitely an upgrade over Ken.

Kinda surprised he left DCL given his background.

This is quite a shuffle-up of executives and as an outsider, my read is that Potrock was being respectfully sidelined (into a role with no obvious path upward) while Mazloum is being given an opportunity to audition to be Josh's successor...should Josh move up. Hopefully Mazloum refreshes the creative leadership at DLR, brings some new initiatives and asks a few questions, like:
  • Third attraction for Galaxy's Edge
  • Tomorrowland
  • Frozen at DLR (really, this is still not a priority?)
  • Moana (can't deny this is a top IP for the company)
  • Do guests really want Avatar at DLR?
  • Fix the dang Madame Leota gift shop so it doesn't look like garbage

This is certainly the prevailing expectation of where Coco is going. But I think it would be a mistake. It locks this "land" into being a potpourri based on one of Disney's studio brands that normie consumers just don't feel that strongly about.

For decades I made consumer products with the overall Pixar brand and individual Pixar movies, as well as with other CGI studios such as DreamWorks, Illumination, Blue Sky, etc. -- and I can say, mass audiences don't know the difference. They generally can't tell you which studio made which movie, except for a few exceptions. And they really don't care. It's inside baseball.

It's like knowing whether Warner Bros., Universal, Sony, Paramount or 20th Century Fox made the Mission: Impossible movies... people don't know and don't care. What they care about is the movie/franchise. (I know the animation studios have more of a "house style" than the live-action productions from a given studio, but it's not distinctive enough across movies to differentiate from other CGI movies for normal people.)

All that is to say, a land based broadly on Pixar is not connecting viscerally with guests like a different movie/franchise theme could. Especially when you mix in the non sequitur pier amusement park aspect (what does that have to do with Pixar?). The Pixar umbrella theme is a placeholder at best. Yes, the land needs more, but what I think it needs is a single relatable theme (e.g., Toy Story, or Frozen) so that moms, dads, and kids can have a clearly envisionable and discussable thing to get excited about.

At the very least I think the stretch of land with the Hyperion and Animation buildings will be folded into Avengers Campus since the rumor is Avatar will just claim the backlot and bus load/unload area.

That was my read as well - ESPN has the broadcast rights to the LA Super Bowl in 2027 but no broadcast rights for the 26 World Cup or 28 Olympics… not sure what major events would require dotted line reporting to both parks and ESPN.

As someone who's been visiting DCA for 20 years now, Pixar Pier is the best version of that area that's ever been.

With the successful retheming of the hotel, even moreso.

I do understand why so many in the community dislike Pixar Pier and I have a few qualms with a few of the changes myself, but it’s honestly more popular than ever. A lot of the Pixar changes (primarily the food and the carousel) were 100% the right move and even Incredicoaster carries longer waits than Screamin’ did. Plus with the Fun Whee-ahem, Pal-a-Round, Paradise/Pixar Pier is probably never ever leaving.
