This thread makes my eyes glaze over. Do you people really care what happens on this plot of land at this point?

Nope, for me DHS has pretty much entered the same category as EPCOT. Something I'll have good memories of and no real desire to go to anymore.

EPCOT Center at least had a heyday. MGM-Studios never had much in terms of one. It's best years we're probably from 1989-1994, which is hardly enough time to justify nostalgia.

The park has always had identity issues and the future of DHS is certainly not the "east coast Hollywood" we were once promised, but it will be an exponentially better park than it has been for about the past 15-20
Years, if not more.

I would say '89 - '94 was the heyday for WDW as a whole. They will never top that time period. All nostalgia aside while I'm sure they will add a few nice things I would gladly give it up for a free ride in a time machine to visit WDW in the early '90s instead.

By 2012, DHS will be a worthy park.

Right now, it's an embarrassment.

So quickly back to the Muppets Courtyard "water tower".

Apparently this wasn't a highly photographed section of the park before now as it's hard to find any pics even of that part of the park. Considering the old entryway to the restaurant was very bland, it's very understandable as to why.

The best I could do I decided was to do a Google Earth 3D search. As you can see by the picture, the satellite image was taken before Pizza Planet had closed and any walls even went up for the refurbishment. Notice though, sort of hidden away and blended into the rooftop (Circled in red), the pre-existing structure for what now is the "Heckler Tomato" Water Tower. The bold paint job makes it stand out much more now, as opposed to before where barely anyone knew it was even there.

It's been an embarrassment for what i'd argue is close to 15 years. Disney simply didn't invest in the park for years and years at a time. They basically put it on cruise control and let it run itself. They should've dropped the whole "Backlot" charade a decade or so ago and maybe the park wouldn't be in such a dire position, but obviously they didn't. It's certainly not going to be pretty the next few years.

I knew about there being one other tower (there's one above the "Gonzo's Royal Flush" bathrooms), but wow, didn't realize there were 5 of them.

I want to say these were placed here not to fit in with the Muppets, but to be seen in far away shots on the back lot when they actually used it for filming. Of course I have absolutely no proof of that or anything to substantiate it.

There's not much to do at DHS these days. Might as well count water towers. :)

According to ITM, the Academy busts by Frozen have been removed and a food and drink stand will be put in their place. No word yet of them being relocated.

While the small area wasn't a very big draw, it was a small piece of DHS history and unique to the park. Small little places like this help each of the parks remain distinct from one another. I'm also interested to see them willing to remove something with Walt Disney (his bust).

Bill Cosby is probably saying now that the rest of them know how it feels.

I think it's probably better we stray away from talking about Bill Cosby.

I'm also a tad uncomfortable with the wording of the post given Cosby's... troubling past

Cosby's statue was removed. The rest have now been removed. Don't read anything more into it than that. And I will leave it at that.

I didn't mean to imply you meant anything by it more so than it was unfortunate wording.

The biggest loss over the years is the park has moved from celebrating movies and TV into IP dumping ground. Same can be said of USF to a degree (though it always had more attractions not about production, like Jaws, BTTF, Kongfrontation, etc). I'll always miss Monster Sound, Superstar TV, the behind the scenes tours, the various museums and halls of fame, etc.

The Tram Tour was awesome the first time I rode it. They were animating the Lion King at the time and that's always stuck out to me.
