It's not that, it is their satisfaction in using the land and plowing it all under. If Disney built a 1000 car lot at each of their parks, I would be most impressed. It would be better for the guests and the environment. Plant the rest in with Slash pine and Saw Palmetto and call it a day.

I do wish they would find some way to do garages instead of the massive lots that take up tons of space and then require trams to get people to the front gates. Not exactly the most environmental setup going on.

I know that they don't want anything leaking in to the guests view inside the park, but I'm sure they can come up with something.

Would have been nice if instead of building the new solar farm on vacant land if they could have built it over one of the lots and created covered parking.

Apparently the word is the timeline for the DHS project has been accelerated as of just recently (the decision was just made to cut Osborne Lights because of this) and they want everything up to the unannounced phase 3 done by 2020. The reasons for this include park ops pushing against the 6 year time-line (which was only for TS Land and Star Wars) as the park is dead weight and more importantly, Disney is finally worried about losing market share and the park getting a bad reputation.

All of this is coming from reputable sources over at Magic. Here's a post of a potential timeline, which multiple insiders have said jives with what they've heard:

This is the updated timeline that I heard. Take it with a teaspoon of salt since it's from a friend who spoke with an "insider" (at least I'm being open).

Toy Story Land Fall 2017 (AVATAR Spring 2017 for the three people who care).
Star Wars 2019 (no mention of a season, but it is being coordinated with Disneyland; personally, I'd guess May)
Cars Land 2020

Large scale construction underway south, east, and west in the park by this time next year.

And there is still a project heading down the pipes for MK's 50th.

He also mentioned that Osborne's imminent cancellation was a recent decision (meaning the schedule has been expedited). Again, salt. However, DL traditionally avoids large-scale construction during their decennial celebrations and is now planning to break that rule, suggesting an acceleration in pace.

It seems both Disney & Universal have been accelerating their schedules. Competition is sure good for us theme park fanatics.

According to what you posted Cars Land is back on the table. When did that happen?

I'll believe Cars Land when I see it. But Toy Story Land by 2017 shouldn't even be a question. It's a barebones coaster with basic theming and some flat rides. Come on now.

Yeah, the fact that 2017 for Toy Story is "accelerated" is a joke in and of itself.

I've always looked at TSL as 2017 because that's when TS4 is set to come out.

SW in 2019 would put it at a 40-45 month construction timeframe, which seams reasonable for Disney's speed.

You have to remember Avatar is opening early 2017... it's better to spread the openings apart a bit.

With, TSL you have to also realize there are major infrastructure issues needed to be addressed. If they were starting with bare land that's one thing. To move and rebuild the backstage buildings is a big part of this.

The backstage buildings should be fairly easy to remove (most of them). The hardest that will be to remove/demo is the OMD/Sparrow building as that will require full demo.

Regardless of what few insiders are saying, I just can't believe Disney will complete this in 2016, a Transformers Orlando type time frame. That's too ambitious a time frame for WDW. Look how long it's taking just to add the third track to Toy Storia Mania. If it was just the coaster & flat ride, maybe, but it is a 12 acre section. Even if they're fairly simple structures, demo work and construction in a fast manner are not exactly Disney's forte. I'm placing my prediction here now. And that's late Spring or even much later in 2017.

Rumor coming from WDWMagic is that the Third TSMM track may open well ahead of schedule and be operational by the holidays. To back this up a bit, a permit was just filed to "Install Show Sets".

So if this holds true, hopefully it's to get that project done with and get the crews from that over working on TS Land ASAP (+ added capacity of course).

So, this TSMM addition is being built in an existing adjacent building, correct?

The extra track is going to the left of the current TSMM entrance in a soundstage that has largely gone unused to the public for years.

Most notably, it was the epicenter of the MyMagic+ project for about 4-5 years and they basically had the entire vacation experience set-up in there that MyMagic+ uses and stations to test it out. In a comprehensive article with interviews from people who worked on the project or closely to it, Bob Iger and the entire Board of Directors are said to have come and approved the budget for the project there after testing it out time and time again. Bob even rejected it once apparently.

As they were feet away from their most popular attraction reaching 180 minute waits due to low capacity, you would think they got the idea to expand it or open new attractions to take the load off earlier.
