Heh, does anyone know when they updated the ET pre show film? I was watching it this Sunday (I went three times last week but didn't pay attention to the pre show film). The film wasn't grainy anymore, it looked like it was HD. And the 1990 Steven Spielberg with the ball cap was replaced with a present day mostly gray haired Steven Spielberg.

They definitely re-did the video in 2002 for the movie's 20th anniversary. I don't believe any substantial changes of any kind have been made since then.

The 30th anniversary i think (or whatever the anniversary was recently.)

ET look as grainy as ever, which is funny all by itself.

This was different than the one I saw on my last trip in 2015. A different older Spielberg for sure. Looked very present day.

Interesting! I went last year, as well, and it was still the 20th anniversary version. I'll have to investigate this!

Thats because ET himself was taken from the old preshow. Sadly, all of the ET's rotted away - there isn't one left anymore.

Well there's always that CGI ET, not that I think that's a good alternative.

Just know that Universal has pondered or entertained the idea of closing it quite recently. I do not know the end result and probably won't until we hear of it, if ever.

If this is what it looks like as of a few days ago..yikes. :ack:

The attraction looks incredibly dated, especially with certain scenes in the ride that have very much aged terribly. If it does go in the next few years for Nintendo, I will say that anything can be better than this in it's current state.

I can't agree with you on this. :)It's still one of the most entertaining & fun attractions in the park. And the queue, with it's giant redwoods, great pine scent, Botanicus AA and general ambiance, is very satisfying. And its not a nostalgia thing with me since I didn't go to the park in it's early years. It's way better than the Peter Pan dark ride at the Magic Kingdom (even though they just put in some really nice queue scenes that are actually better than the ride). We ride ET more than half a dozen times every vacation. Plus the park really needs a ride like that to balance out things.:)

And I get why, after all; opinions are all great to the forums as it allows interaction (unlike some forums), but to me; it looks a lot more dated than it ever has to me.

If it stays, I hope to god a refurb is on its way in the future; but if it goes, good.

I went on it several times in the last month and they have done some work. The timing is better. You don't see things reset like you used to. Honestly the kids loved it. They jumped at the chance to go on a second time. I think it is still good, but could use a small refurb.

I've not been on it in about 10 years and it's looking really dated now. My concern with a refurb would be that to get it up to an acceptable standard, it would cost almost as much as just building a new attraction. I'ts prime real estate.

Speaking of resetting, this is kind of unrelated but is one of my favorite ET videos.

THIS!!

I always compared it to Peter Pan and it's not even close, so much better, but it is the Studios Pan. I geek out flying over the city. I'm holding out hope they save Nintendo for the 3rd park and stick SLOP or Bikini Bottom in KZ so ET is saved. (Yeah, I know it's not likely, and irony says we'll get SLOP when it takes ET's spot  )
