I think if the E.T. ride ever closes that will be it for that IP unless there's a new movie or something. I could see BTTF and Jaws coming back though.

Although, that's more my own opinion on the matter.

In my opinion, if I was Comcast; that would be short-term. Plus, its not like the entire resort is filled with screen based attractions (Looking at MIB, Mummy, a bulk of the IOA attractions) as there is still a good amount of practical attractions on property. Plus, when you think of the long term, it's plot would be used to the greatest potential (considering that DA did similar).

There are positives to it, and I think people haven't exactly looked at it from that angle..plus, if you include ET; it gives you almost a Carsland sized plot, and considering how well Universal has handled densing its areas with attractions; it would benefit it greatly in ways that I don't think people grasp yet.

I think Universal has been addressing capacity issues with their current projects. Screens help with that. Upcoming projects like Nintendo and Secret Life will not be screen based and will be more all ages oriented.

San Francisco is about 4-5 acres; Where-as KZ (Including everything from AA to ET {Excluding the Media Center}) is about 10 and a half acres. And considering how it's been said of this expansion catering more than 3-4 attractions the last time I checked; it's a better win than that plot.

This is a very good reason to add.

I can't imagine Universal doing a new E.T. ride. With so many possibilities for new attractions I just don't see an upside for revisiting such an old IP that has already been in the park for soon.

Disagree. Kong was brought back and ET still brings in a good number of people to ride.

As much as I love E.T., Kong is really a different thing. Kong has had more recent movies. I think E.T. as a new attraction would work, I just think there are other more appealing IP's to use first. This is why I don't think E.T. is going anywhere anytime soon. It still does very well but probably isn't worthy of building something new.

Kong has had multiple movies, animated series and is a big cool ape. E.T. is a one and done movie.

I don't think one of Spielberg's finest films deserves the phrase "one and done" like it's a Michael Bay or Roland Emmerich disaster movie  but I agree Kong is much more E-ticket than E.T. with the jungle setting, dinosaurs and giant insects, plus a giant ape.

E.T., Jaws and BTTF should each be given a show scene in a Universal equivalent to The Great Movie Ride. Having one nostalgia-based E-ticket would be a good way to pay tribute to the past while giving the Mushroom Kingdom and Donkey Kong Country the space they need and deserve.

I said one and done only because Spielberg ruled out a sequel of any sort. An online quote of his said a sequel would do nothing but rob the original of its virginity. He did the one and then he was done. I heard he considered a sequel then wisely decided against it.

When I was a kid and got new toys I had to give some of my old ones to make space. I want new toys. Except for MIB. :D

Enough talk of toys, childhood or adult...

Universal needs to continue to change and evolve as a park, but, they also need to build on their multi-generational movie legacy..This includes things like showcasing the Classic Monsters, Not re branding JP with JW and up keeping E.T. - a classic film..You mentioned earlier that you are o.k. with old things leaving except MIB...With Universal's old model, MIB would be in dangerous territory of leaving..I think Uni is starting to notice that its classics are important and they are coming out of the "I hate myself" model they used in the past..Things like Kong and keeping E.T. would speak volumes to the fans and everyday guests I think...of course...all my opinion

Just got back from our july 4th universal visit. Our 1st ride was ET we noticed the blue screen behind the city is in need of some major repair. We love this ride and hope it can be repaired and kept going for along time to come

Welcome to the OU Forums ....We traditionally do ET as our first ride for every Universal vacation. Then 4 or5 more times after that. Just love the queue & ride. Like Splash Mountain, it always puts a smile on my face.

lol i'm pretty sure this ride will stay for a bit longer. I think the park has great pride in the ride, and they showcase it almost like it's a classic that is there to stay. However, if it does stay, i'd say a refurb would be greatly appreciated. Small touch ups on those mannequin-like animatronics is a start, but there is a lot that this ride kinda needs for it stay. Like a good upgrade to make this ride reliable, and more timeless.

Fun fact: when i was small the cop cars and jeep that come out towards the vehicle used to scare the hell outta me. I'd cry everytime. ;)

Friend of mine works behind the scenes for Universal and has stated that if E.T. is removed it won't be till after 2018.
