But come on, this is goalpost moving in a thread titled "What's not working?" Attendance is abysmal. That's what's not working.

No. This is completely missing cause and effect to the point I'm wondering if you're just a troll here. This feels like coming off of UOAP sour grapes.

Yep. A motion platform dark ride (like the dynamic attractions model / Intamin’s new one for Dance Macabre at Efteling) themed like Space Fantasy and dropped into Celestial Park would have done wonders. A dark ride on the scale of Cat in the Hat in Berk likewise.

I think the park is boxed in by the IPs to be honest. You can’t build a mid-sized attraction for Nintendo or for Potter. Berk seems pretty flexible in terms of attraction types it could accommodate but it’s already very built out. Dark Universe pretty much only has one spot left, so they won’t want to waste it on something middling, I guess.

The CC queue thing is funny. I hadn’t noticed that, but you’re right.

There's an endless supply of mid-sized attractions for Nintendo. There might not be enough room now (something that could have been planned for), but I could easily see Luigi's Mansion, Space Fantasy themed to Super Mario Galaxy, Wario D-ticket, DK flats, etc. I get what they were going for with Yoshi, but they should've built something closer to SLoP.

Agreed with Potter though. I still think it should've taken over FFL and another IP should have gone where the Ministry is.

People keep referencing SLoP…

Legitimate question - how is its ridership?

I'm confused about why we're saying Nintendo isn't a draw/success. It absolutely is; they sell boatloads of merchandise and are probably close to breaking even on their Nintendo investments through those sales alone, if the figures I've heard thrown around are even close to accurate.

As @Mad Dog suggested, I could see that the word of mouth is perhaps suppressing enthusiasm/repeat visits, however. Reactions to Mario Kart are decidedly mixed, Yoshi doesn't quite satisfy, and Donkey Kong is burdened with punishing waits and downtime for a relatively brief (if novel) coaster. The games are fun, but the crowds are not. The visuals are gorgeous, if the animation works, but the land is still kind of a pain to navigate.

Well we knew the consumerism aspect of the land would of course be a smash hit. It’s a capitalist dream. Nintendo merch flies with our without a theme park land.

I don’t know if that really indicates the land itself has been successfully executed as a theme park experience.

But it’s performing well on the mall metrics…

Consistently outstrips its (low) capacity with 40 minute waits, even on slow days. My understanding is its GSATs are very solid, but there is some frustration with the wait times.

I like all the Nintendo rides, but I get people's critiques. I think Mario Kart is the most fun game on any interactive ride I've ever experienced, but I won't argue with people who wish it just went fast.

I do think it's funny, though, that two other major parks have built or are building what could be classified as Mario Kart rip-offs: Europa Park with Grand Prix EDVenture, and Tokyo Disneyland with Sugar Rush... and both of those are slow moving shooters.

Wasn’t the much-lambasted Harry Potter Land pitch from Disney anchored by a Toy Story Mania wand ride?

Yeah…that’s what Mario Kart is to Nintendo. It’s not the worst ride in the world in a vacuum but a near 1:1 comparison is one of the most derided ideas in theme park fandom.
