If they just reuse the ride system for a quick fix, Universal haven't learned anything imo.

Fully admitting I'm ignorant on a lot of things that are taken into account with a decision like this but how much extra capacity do they really need at Studios in the short term?

Gut the building and put a next gen spider-man in there with us riding in a floaty Delorean.

I could see them gutting it. Fairly common knowledge that Universal has had nothing but trouble with the VDL platforms for this ride system since the beginning, so on the one hand I would think they’d take the chance to get rid ASAP, but on the other that does leave them needing to maintain all the same spares / systems / knowledge just for the sake of Kong on its own.

I don't want more Potter here either, but at least with Potter, they don't skimp on quality.

I think there are only a few realistic IP possibilities here:

- Jaws – They could keep the San Francisco area, but the current ride system might be difficult.

- Back to the Future – Probably the easiest retheme. The area could stay mostly the same, and the existing ride system could be reused.

- Twisters – The ride system could work, but the theme doesn't really fit the area.

- Knight Bus – My least favorite option. It would almost certainly mean losing the San Francisco area, but it would be a popular IP and could still use the existing ride system.

- Universal movie mash-up – A celebration of Universal's biggest films. They could reuse the ride system while keeping the San Francisco setting.

- Complete demolition – Tear everything down and build something entirely new, maybe even a Wicked-themed attraction.

I just can't think of any other major Universal IPs that would be a good fit for that location.

What would be even cooler is if they managed to have different "sets" in the special effects tour on either side of the show building. So instead of everything being contained to one Jaws set/scene...you could have on the left, the lights go up and it's a Twister(s) set/scene, then once that completes, the lights go up on the right and it's a Jaws set/scene, further up on the left, a BTTF set/ sequence, so on and so forth. I guess...really the indoor tram tour as we've all kind of pitched before haha but sort of a blend between the tram tour and the SFX show...and then obviously throwbacks to the OG rides Twister, Jaws, BTTF etc.

I like that idea.

What about BTTF ride that goes back in Universal studios history, back to the institute of future technology, back to the jaws ride, back to Kong. So on and so forth.

Pure fan service great way to box off the nostalgia play in one fail swoop.

I think this would go over 80% of the GP’s heads. I realize Easter eggs in theme park attractions are becoming more common , but that’s like an Easter egg based attraction.

Most of the younger crowd (teens and into early 20's) have no real connection to those rides. While I enjoyed Jaws enough, it wasn't the best ride ever. I realize that I might be banned for that comment.

I loved Horizons at Epcot but anyone under 33 years old never remembered or experienced it.

I wouldn't say this automatically discounts younger audiences. Some people are nolgastic for an era which was just before their time. Look at the popularity of Backrooms (which is 90s nostalgia) with people under 30. But it certainly takes a measured approach.

Not a fan of bringing back extinct rides, but bringing back IPs is 100% possible.

BTTF and Jaws have proven to be timeless, look at how much merch they still pull today. Hear the crowd gasp when the Jaws theme starts during Cinesational.


Outside of Wicked, are there any other relevant Universal owned IPs they should prioritize over BTTF/Jaws?

Twisters could work in this space… but who’s clamoring for a Twisters t shirt?

I actually like the idea, on a personal level. I loved the Movie ride also, at DHS. BUT, I have serious reservations on whether Universal's core demographic, especially the younger age segment, would care for that type of attraction, especially, after having two early teenage girls with us for long vacations at WDW and Universal for 2024 and now 2026. Their interests seemed very contrary to that idea concept, plus their knowledge of those films was essentially zilch, except for Ghostbusters. So, while I like the concept, I doubt it would be a big hit for Universal.

I wonder what a Jaws ride would look like today: somehow I think ‘blast the shark with a shotgun’ ain’t it.

Maybe we see a return to this one day.

Saw the trailer for End of Oak Street and Anne Hathaway pumping a shotgun and shooting a T-Rex hits pretty hard still.

Just embrace it as Americana. The foreign tourists with actual gun policies would love it. What feels more American than shooting stuff?

Great Movie Ride had great throughput capacity, which fortunately led to low waits. But it was always attended well, and a highlight of the park. It should have received a refurb and switched out some IPs, but the concept was timeless.
