I know Thierry Coup left in March last year, but he did say this was Unis biggest mistake ever. When(not if) the replace this soon, No way they keep the ride system. The building is huge, gut it and move on to something better.

As I've said before: if the ride is unimportant enough to Universal that they'll sacrifice it for ten weeks to make a seasonal event easier to run (or to save money), it should be replaced immediately.

It's probably a big disappointment for those who are visiting the park for the first time. Fast and furious is obviously a huge IP. For the rest of us......

In the intern before they can get to fully replacing Supercharged, it is possible that perhaps a temporary overlay is fast tracked until bigger ticket items like Pokemon come online that will afford Universal the opportunity to shutter the ride for good?

I feel that is unlikely. Creating 360 degree media for that tunnel is more costly and resource intensive than many people realize, and while the ride film certainly isn't good, the main issue with the attraction is the ride system itself. No overlay can really fix that.

Twisters did big business at the domestic box office in particular and I think USF should look into adding it back to the resort somehow given the success of the film and how easily it translates to a theme park ride (Twisters in 4DX was like a 2-hour ride). That said, San Francisco isn't the ideal location for an Oklahoma-based franchise. I guess they could retheme the area to become more like a rural main street but it might clash with the city aesthetic between New York and London.

I really think we may be overestimating how bullish Universal is on Twister as a franchise right now. The sequel did well enough domestically (bulk of the pic's business at $238 million) but cratered internationally (couldn't clear $100 million). Couldn't meet the original's numbers, even with the nostalgia factor and without accounting for inflation. It won't break a profit theatrically.

We don't know what the monetary split is with WB, though, who distributed internationally.

Universal handled domestic, where it's clearly a solid, mid-range hit that has had very, very good legs. Even with a terrible release date.

Its estimated budget including marketing is pushing $200 million. It hasn’t even broken $300 million domestically. It’s not a flop by any means, but this type of performance can’t possibly justify bullish reintegration into the theme park. They already removed an attraction based on its much more successful predecessor!

Box Office numbers can't tell us of an attraction's success, WaterWorld proved that. But, if there's a mandate to reuse the ride system, Twisters is a perfect candidate. I'd hate for them to reuse this ride system for an other IP that demands higher quality experiences.

I'm not saying that I think Universal would bring TWISTER(S) back into the park.

But they do have a shortage of their own live action IP that could be suitable for park use, so I don't think it would be the craziest thing I've ever heard.

Well aware, just wanted to bring up the point that if Universal is attempting to keep the ride system and reskin, Twisters isn't a bad candidate. The ride system is a D-ticket at best, and Universal shouldn't try to put a major IP in here unless it's a complete demo of the building/system.

Easy, just CGI the TransAmerica building somewhere in the background and you’re golden!

This is true, but Universal’s mega-hits this half of the century have been limited to Minions, Jurassic Park, and Nintendo…all of which are already represented.

Plus, short of an entire conversion of the San Francisco section into an immersive “land,” the space isn’t really worthy of a mega-IP representation (source: they tried already lol). A domestic crowd pleaser (which still has a whole life left to live on VOD, btw) could be a perfect candidate for a standalone D-ticket like the 360 rides are.

TWISTERS has also made more money (domestically) than the individual BOURNE movies did. Unadjusted for inflation, but even so. Stuntacular* was also added in the wake of two BOURNE films that underperformed and that most people didn't like.

Again, not saying TWISTERS would happen, but it's not the most ridiculous idea I've ever heard.

*I'm not trying to even indirectly denigrate The Bourne Stuntacular. I think it's terrific. and I'm glad Universal went with the concept even with the franchise in a bad place.

People want Twister back.... others want JAWS... we also miss Earthquake (well, Hollywood doesn't anymore now that it's back)..

Compromise: Replace Supercharged with "SHARKNADO"

It'll give us Twister, JAWS, & set it in San Francisco culminating in a Sharkquake (sponsored by SyFy)
