One can only hope.

Alas, this rumor is everywhere, and I don't think it all came from Spirit's MAGICal thread.

If true, i'll warn you i'll take insane amount of glee in seeing thrill-ride fans having one of their "classics" torn apart.

Then again, they only care about the drop so it wont be too effectively cathartic unless that goes away.. *climbs back up Mt. Crumpet to find other ways to ruin joy*

Well, as dumb as this rumor is, we can all agree photo dave is a douche. (He's not a member here so it's not a personal attack - it's an impersonal behind the back general acknowledgement of his asshattery. They do it all the time to me over there so fair is fair.)

I LOLed. I like Photodave. His "hats" are amusing to me. But I'm weird.

Remember the internet before we knew what people were referring to when they said "MAGICal" like that?

I miss that time too.

As someone who knows him IRL better than most, I cannot disagree. Moreover, I don't think he would disagree, either.

They've got that big plot of land not doing anything but holding a see nothing tram tour that's just sitting there. But hey, what does Disney care when they can destroy a classic.

The other reason this idea is dumb is because why re theme what is one of your best rides when the money could be spent on other things more needed.

I was going to write something but this is beyond stupid and a waste of my time. I just hope Universal hold tight to that contract on the east coast, because if they are trying to change theme to Marvel, then we can all say "we all have already ridden the upcoming Marvel's Ultimate Ride at DHS" coming soon!!!..... in 5 yrs!!! What's the point? Let Universal do what they do best.... Actually!! build stuff!!

Well 74 confirmed last night that the contract with CBS being up for renewal is part of this. They're bending over for pennies while dollars fly overhead. I hope Shanghai nuclear blasts in their face.

It still puzzles me about the CBS/Viacom theory. Why would that immediately make Disney bend over backwards to awkwardly shoehorn in a GotG redo when that's the exact opposite approach with Marvel they want to take re: Star Wars. It's especially puzzling because Disney already has a Twilight Zone-less version of this attraction. It's done and can fit snugly into the Paris and California versions. The only one that would have to be adjusted is DHS, in which they would again have to fight loophole after loophole to shove in.

I just have a really hard time putting this all together because nothing seems to match up. It really feels like there is a piece of the puzzle significantly missing here. Or, the Occum's Razor theory... that being it's all BS.

I'm thinking it has nothing to do with CBS' current contract and more to do with negotiations of a new one. "Well if you walk we have a back up plan."

That makes a lot of sense. It could be why this was leaked by so many sources.

That would shine a huge amount of light/logic onto this. Disney has the ability to wrestle CBS into possibly looking like the bad guys. Of course.

This is up there with Fallon as far a curiosity factor.

For the kind of budget that they would spend to overlay TOT? I mean....I can't imagine it being less costly to do TOT "right" for GOTG than it would be to build an entirely different ride.

I hate to say this, but I think Disney is adopting the wrong idea from Universal....meaning "overlaying" existing attractions with new franchises, but not doing it properly. I still can't wait to see how much they screwed up Maelstrom.

To me, Universal is all about keeping things new and fresh, while Disney is about tradition and nostalgia...so far, Disney has more land and the idea of shutting down TOT for this? they should just go ahead and close DHS

I think the hard part of digesting this is besides the fact that this is probably the last major, groundbreaking ride.... (and NO! TSMM I'm not giving the rank to an oversized Duck Hunt arcade game)... it's also what the tower itself represents. This ride is an Icon for DHS. I know it is supposed to be the Chinese Theater, but think about it, who get's more cover page photos on park's map? and who was the one that got blocked out of sight by a giant hat? Yeah! ToT is the Cinderella Castle for DHS.... Wait a minute!!! Why don't they use Cinderella Castle for GotG? It's vacant! mostly just a restaurant and a suite. Since they are tampering with Iconic buildings.

I'd say Everest at Animal Kingdom is the last truly unique ride.

If they're going after icons though, the tree of life should be turned into Groot.
