My concern for this ride is: how will they make this ride different enough from the forest section of FJ? I think a long section with Lupin chasing you would be really cool.

I think that's an overall concern ever since they said it would be a thrill ride. FJ is quite thrilling for most people as it is. Dragons were accepted because they preexisted Potter, but the land definitely needs a family friendly attraction.

I totally disagree with this opinion. I don't want one of Orlando's top coasters replaced by a "family friendly attraction". The kids can ride the kiddie coaster if they want, and FJ is still family friendly with a manageable height requirement, regardless if it makes folks dizzy. They can also ride the train (if they buy 2 park passes), and ride the less thrilling Bank vault attraction if they wish.

If they turn this coaster into another Gringotts level of thrill ride, I'll be extremely disappointed.

Save the next family friendly ride for whatever replaces the LC.

This plot of land is so big, there's no excuse as to why they couldn't build both a thrilling coaster AND a family ride. Use your space smartly Universal!

That's your opinion. Last I checked Orlando still has a severe shortage of real roller coasters. Dueling Dragons may not be the best coaster in Orlando, thanks to Sea World stepping up their game, but it's still on a VERY short list.

If FJ is too "thrilling" for you, then maybe you should take a day trip to the mouse house down the street instead.

Islands of Adventure has always stood out as the "thrilling rides" park...let's not dumb the brand down so Adult Toddlers who can't handle "motion" are given a boring and tame Harry Potter attraction.

I'd argue that Dueling Dragons, is a much better coaster then HRRR.

Considering UOR has used the word "thrilling" in almost all of it's press releases for this attraction, I'm guessing it won't be It's a Small Wizarding World after all.

I think you got to take a step back and realize "thrilling" has different meanings for everyone. Even a tame ride like Pirates at MK can be "thrilling" with that small drop - depending on who you ask.

FJ's thrills may be more obvious to some, but it doesn't mean it can't be too much for some people - especially for something that should aim closer to being a family ride. While UOR definitely skews towards an older crowd compared to Disney, it doesn't mean it should neglect to offer a rounded experience at the Resort - which this new addition may be aiming to do.

"Thrilling" is becoming like "themed" or "theme park" - total marketing speak with 20 different meanings.

Six Flags calls their coasters "thrilling." By that definition, Universal has 3 (soon, 2) thrilling rides. By Disney standards, they have more.

Height requirements do limit a lot of people from attractions. The 4" drop in height for MS Green has opened it up to a lot more park guests - not because they're all that short, but because parties generally don't like to split up.

Have you ever considered that Universal actually wants to change its image when it comes to Coasters and thrill rides like you said about IOA?

This is Orlando, not a Six Flags or Cedar Fair park somewhere. The majority of people who travel and pay the big bucks are those with kids.

Orlando’s Top Coasters? LMAO We don’t even have enough coasters to nominate for a Top 10 List. I’m sorry but as famous as my city might be for it’s Theme Parks, we are the most pathetic destination for thrill seekers. I always thought Orlando should be a balanced theme park destination, but it seems like wanting thrill rides in this place is a sin and the only answer to everything out here is more family friendly rides, like if we don’t already have enough for them. If UOR decides to be as tame as Disney, then so be it… it would be easier for me to cancel out my $37 monthly payment if I choose to. My hopes now are with SeaWorld. They have THE BEST annual pass by far, parks offer the best theme park food in the area (I’m not referring to seat down restaurant), and they are building to break records, just what Orlando needs to be relevant on the thrill department aside from the flying pink elephants and pixie dust.

I would have to agree. One of the things that made IOA a great option for me was the level of thrill rides. The parks down the street were great if I was going with little kids, but IOA was always the choice for me and my college friends. If they start replacing true roller coasters like Dragon Challenge with "family friendly" rides, it will loose a lot of its appeal for my demographic.

Yes, if your hopes are for nothing but pure thrill rides - the biggest, fastest, etc... - then Orlando is the wrong destination.

And you can hitch your star to SeaWorld - just enjoy it while it's still open.

I think Universal is looking at the demographics of the people staying in their ever expanding hotels when it comes to new attractions/shows/entertainment. And they'll have no trouble retaining their local thrill seeking fan base since Disney is not much competition for that demographic. Per Guest spending is over the roof from those patrons staying in Universal hotels. .

You can't compete with Disney of family/friendly/grandma rides. They never will. They should be focusing on what makes them different than Disney. At the end of the day, those families will still be going to Magic Kingdom, where as the folks looking for something different, will just be looking of something else to do entirely.

go big, or go home. Nintendo land is coming, that's plenty of "family" for everyone. Potter is a franchise aimed at older kids, and teens. Don't cave in to the grandmas.
