I’m not sure it is a prime opportunity. All the people at the event know the ride is coming already and announcing details on a weekend means less normal people see the info

Am I remembering correctly that they did a Super Bowl spot for Transformers? A teaser spot/mini announcement would resonate more in a move like that.

They have been, right? Very little rhyme and reason as to when they announce anything. We were all pretty sure they’d counter D23 with something, anything. But we haven’t heard a peep.

I don’t know if I’d rather them release some news here and there or just in one fell swoop.

Volcano Bay expansion, a Nintendo groundbreaking, and MoM announcement need to be dropped sooner rather than later I’d think. Makes me nervous what’s even happening (or not).

As for HP/FF- I’m curious if they’re waiting to announce more after Star Wars announces theirs. If I’m disney, the second universal announces Hp, I Trump it with info on Alcatraz. Uni knows this.

If you look at all this from a PR POV, Universal are going to be getting some great press over the next week with all things Potter, they don’t need the extra exposure with a ride announcement. It would help things sure but a quiet week some time in the future is even better for them. It keeps the Potter hype train going for longer and keeps the IP at the forefront of people’s minds.

I hope we get an announcement just for more things to speculate on if I had to choose.

I can see the focus be on Crimes of Grindlewald, but that a part of me would think they'd reference something related to the DC replacement, and put clues on the construction walls for the GP.

They can keep the long game for now, but that I don't think they'll announce fully the replacement.

Eh, I personally think fans make situations like this more important than either park. Uni and Disney aren't stupid. They know a new HP ride is gonna bring a ton of people in, as will SWL. Trying to trump one another with details won't change that. People will just be excited for both.

When it comes to Universal holding back announcements, I think there may be more of a plan than most of us have been considering.

I get Nintendo not having any announcements, but the whole Harry Potter thing makes no sense to me.

It's literally ALWAYS been like this though. We don't get solid details about anything over a year before opening. It just doesn't happen. We didn't get solid details on Diagon Alley until the January of 2014, and it opened in July 2014.

I think Universal is following Disney's SWL announcement playbook for Potter.

To my knowledge, SWL hasn't had any TV commercials, press releases, vacation packages or the like. It's all been social media. Disney has been hyping up the fan community and then some of that attention trickles down towards the general public. I don't think Universal would do a Super Bowl ad or anything that large for the Potter coaster. They'll make a couple blog posts and maybe put their next announcement video on Youtube. That will end up getting reposed on social media and regular people will begin to learn about the coaster.

You won't get a Super Bowl commercial for Potter. You'll probably get one this year because the game is on NBC, but it'll be for F&F or the general resort, not for Potter.

There's also the entire Winter Olympics. Plus they're probably going to be promoting Nintendo for the next olympics in Japan, plus they're probably going to broadcast from CityWalk/the parks at some point.

I think they’ll go for the ‘Supercharge your vacation’ tag line during the Super Bowl.

What are the thoughts on metal detectors being used here?

Hulk and HRRR only have metal detectors because they go over public areas and DC obviously interacted with one another so that justifies their use while Gringotts and Mummy get a pass.

If they do go down the metal detector route, it's just dawned on me that there will be no POVs.

It depends on the final layout of the Coaster. If it gets anywhere near public areas then it’ll probably have metal detectors.

I can't see them using metal detectors. The rumor was J.K. hated them.

Just like Mummy or Gringotts, as long as it doesn't go over people or swing past other cars it should be fine. My guess anyway.

At least Universal would listen to her over 100,000 angry customers.

My concern is that if it doesn’t have metal detectors and it’s a relatively thrilling coaster with plenty of scenes and AAs then Universal could have a serious problem with people taking their phones out for videos and pictures. I’d fully expect this coaster to have a post in the ‘why we can’t have nice things’ thread shortly after opening.

Doesn’t seem to affect Mummy and Gringotts.

The use of metal detectors for DC probably sealed the end of that attraction. Reportedly WB and UOR met over their addition (and the sign) and a compromise was made.

I’d be more concerned with phones being out if it was actually less thrilling.

People who record rides or fireworks/shows are a serious pet peeve of mine.

Let the bloggers do them with their 4K DSLRs and just watch it on YouTube. You don’t need to record your own on some janky cell phone. End rant.
